Daniel "Killer" Kilgore, 57, of Thousand Oaks, drowned on June 26, 2011, in the Kern River in Kern County, Calif.
He lived in Thousand Oaks and worked at Silverstar Automotive for 26 years. Dan met his wife of 33 years in the desert and that was where he was the happiest . . . it was a place where he could enjoy the company of good friends, family, the outdoors, camping and riding dirt bikes. He liked to play hard and live life to its fullest. He also enjoyed designing and doing home projects, spending time with his family, barbequing, hosting gatherings at his house, camping in his RV and telling corny jokes.
Throughout his life he has had many hobbies including RC cars, 4-wheeling, running and mountain biking. When his children were younger he coached their soccer and baseball teams. Dan was their biggest fan, attended every event or game and was always encouraging them to strive for greatness. He was known by the dirt bike community for organizing "The Guys Trip." He was known by his family and friends as a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather who always put others first and listened unconditionally to everyone. He will be truly missed by all and will always be remembered as a great man.
Dan is survived by his wife, Pam; three children, Danny (wife, Jaime), Kimberly and Kristine; granddaughter; and sister, Cindy Peyton.
Dan's Celebration of Life took place on July 9, 2011.

What wonderful words and reflection of who Dan was. I know how hard this trail is for all Dan's family and friends and I wish it didn't have to hurt so much. I send my love to you. I hope Dan is with Rich, Don Earll and others where they can tell their bench racing stories.

Kilgore,
Growing up with you and your family has been a privledge. You gave me memories that can never be taken away and I will cherish them and when we meet again we can sit aroung the fire in the desert and tell those stories and memories and really bad jokes to everybody. I'll miss your laugh and your passion for life, and your family. I now strive to be like you, the same way you treated me and everybody else that you knew and came across. I miss you and look forward to day we meet again.
Your friend,
Donald

Grandpa,
From the moment i was born, we’ve always had a special bond. From dirt bike riding in the desert, driving the boat at the lake, silly faces, splashing in the sprinklers, camping in the motor home, uncontrollable giggles, digging in the sand at the beach, cowboy outfits and pirate shirts, pushing me in my favorite car, cement imprints in your backyard...
You have taught me so much and given me the gifts of happiness, silliness, kindness, adventure, and unconditional love
I love you Grandpa! You will always be with me

My brother-in-law, Dan, was an amazing man. He was always there for me in any way I needed him. I really miss our talks to discuss ideas for a project he was starting, his delicious BBQ dinners, and watching him around his family that he was so proud of. Cindy Yamauchi

Dan, such an amazing and wonderful man that took his friends and their kids under his wing as if they were his own...fixing their cars, sharing his hobbies, and always there when needed. Your kindness, great sense of humor, wonderful laughter and smiling eyes will always be remembered and missed. My deepest condolences to your family. You touched so many lives, as only you could. Rest in Peace....with love, the Bernstein family.

I worked with Dan for several years and am a service writer at Jaguar\Lotus and Mercedes. I will always remember him driving his white Jeep through my service drive when he arrived to work. I can't recall one single time that he didn't have a smile on his face. Even when he wasn't happy he didn't show it. Every time I walk past his work area I can still picture him talking to his co workers and jamming out to music. We miss you buddy!
