Dorothy A. Conlan, the wife of former county supervisor John T. Conlan, died Sept. 21, 2007, after a long struggle with cancer. She was 83 years old.
Dorothy was born Dorothy Agatha Smith in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 14, 1924. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and worked as a laboratory assistant in the school of medicine. Dorothy met John T. Conlan in 1938 when they were both in the eighth grade at St. Columba's Catholic School in Philadelphia. Ten years later they were married.
In 1952 Dorothy and John moved to Los Angeles and in 1960 they relocated to the Conejo Valley. Dorothy and John operated a successful Thousand Oaks real estate company, Conlan Co. Realtors, for many years.
Dorothy supported her husband's role as a Ventura County supervisor from 1967 to 1975 and in his many community involvements.
Dorothy was an active parishioner at St. Paschal Baylon Church, serving as Eucharistic minister. She also enjoyed being a member of the Associates of the Sisters of Notre Dame and Red Hat Society. Her family and friends will always cherish memories of Dorothy as a woman of wisdom, faith, integrity, courage, thoughtfulness and generosity.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, John and son, John T. Conlan Jr.
She is survived by her children, Leo Conlan, Barbara Dreher and Mara Sinclair, all of Thousand Oaks; daughter-in-law, Patricia Conlan of Ventura; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at St. Paschal Baylon Church in Thousand Oaks. Burial will follow at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to the La Reina High School Tribute Scholarship Fund, 106 W. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360; or to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 1776 Hendrix Ave., Thousand Oaks, CA 91360.

We loved Dorothy. Suffolk has been a close neighborhood. When we moved in -the year of 71 , Dick Oldenburg sent John down to calm me down when the county was removing the ash trees on the street and cut through our sprinklers. I played Canasta with Dorothy in this street's group. Suffolk loved her.
