Edward Sarsfield Foley

Edward Sarsfield Foley passed away on May 17, 2007, at the age of 79.

He was born in St. Louis, Mo., and lived most of his life in the Woodland Hills area. He will live on in the hearts of his three daughters, Kim Foley Sweeney of Moorpark, Kristen Foley Gemeny of Yorba Linda and Keli Ann Foley of Portland, Ore. He will be forever missed by his grandchildren, Jennifer Colleen Sweeney, 22; Bradford Sarsfield Sweeney, 16; and Connor James Foley Sweeney, 11. He leaves his daughters in the hands of his sons-in-law, John Sweeney and Dan Gemeny and the mother of his girls, Joanne Foley of Woodland Hills; sister, Joanne Wheeler of Medford, Ore.; and brother, Robert Foley of Moraga.

Ed loved the outdoors, mountaineering, cross-country skiing and rock climbing. He was a mountaineering instructor for the Sierra Club. He was active in supporting all of his daughters' and grandchildren's sports teams and clubs through the years. His special hobby for many years was building train sets with his grandsons. He loved all things Irish.

He served our country in the Korean War with the Air Force. He was a proud University of California, Los Angeles alumni and had a careers as a certified public accountant and international tax accountant.

Ed was the friendly face and "greeter" at Le Bon bakery for years, making new friends each day while drinking coffee, eating turnovers, working crosswords and telling stories at his corner table.

He will be remembered for this witty humor and sparkling blue eyes that will always be shining on us from heaven. When Irish, eyes are smiling.

A visitation and prayer vigil will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Gates Kingsley & Gates, Canoga Park, 818-348-3354. A funeral mass will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 25, at St. Mel's Church, 20870 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills, CA 91364; 818-340-6020.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made as a memorial gift in memory of Ed Foley to the Pacific Crest Trail Association so that many others may continue to enjoy the trails and walk in Ed's footsteps.
