Frank Bustamante Obituary

Frank Bustamante passed away peacefully as he planned on March 26, 2009 knowing his life on earth was to be followed by his grand journey into heaven. Frank was loved by a countless number of people and left his mark wherever he went with his sense of humor, quick wit and gentle nature. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.

Frank was born December 3, 1926 and was a veteran of World War II. He met the love of his life, Gloria after his honorable discharge from the service and they married in 1952 and were married for almost 53 years before her death in 2005.

Frank worked for Bank of America for 30 years before taking early retirement, even though he did not retire. He continued to work as a consultant for a few years, but always found time to enjoy life. Frank was a true sports fan, and if the Lakers or Dodgers were on the television, you just knew you could find him sitting in his favorite chair rooting them on. You also knew not to call him during the game, or the conversation would be rather one-sided. Frank also loved being a member of the Knights of Columbus and was honored to serve a year as Grand Knight of San Buenaventura Council #2498. Frank volunteered for many projects with his brother Knights, and he also donated time, energy and money to little league, the American Legion and many other worthy recipients.

Frank is survived by his daughter, Barbara and her husband Jerry son, Ted and his wife Debbie; and his grandchildren, Melissa, Evan, Bryant, Scott and Sara, who were the five lights of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Chita; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 3 - 8 p.m., Monday, March 30th, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, with recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 31, with Interment to follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, and reception at Saticoy Country Club to follow. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the medical personnel and friends who helped Frank over the years. Every kind word and thoughtful action helped Frank with the struggles he faced daily, and provided him with strength while he lived his last days as he lived his entire life, with dignity.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your father. It is always difficult to lose someone that you admire and love. I believe we honor those we lose by taking what we admire in them and making those traits a part of our lives.
God Bless you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Family of Frank Bustamante,

My husband and I wish to extend our condolences to all of you. May the Lord comfort you during this difficult time. We were sorry to hear of Frank's death, but inspiring to read of his productive and happy life.

I was a Classmate of his at Miami High School during the years of 1943-45. I also knew him since the days he lived in Florence, AZ when I would visit with my cousins, the Garcia family. My cousin Eloisa was a good friend of his sister, Lola. He was also related to my sister-in-law, Betty Portillo Barcon. She always called him "Uncle Frank," because he was her uncle, even though she was 13 years older than he. I lost track of Frank, or "Kiko" as we called him, throughout the years, but I saw him and his wife Gloria at the funeral of Dave Hernandez. It was enjoyable to share our life's experiences then and we discovered we had similar travel experiences. It was a pleasure to meet your Mom. I had occasion to converse with him over the phone a few times after that. I will always remember him fondly, as you say in the obituary, he was a quiet and dignified man.

Sincerely,

Jess and Elisa Munoz

Dearest Frank,

It is often too late to express to someone exactly how they touched your life. You were a wonderful man and I am thankful I had the pleasure of knowing you. My daughters will always remember you as "Frank with the licorice". They looked forward to coming to the office to visit with you and enjoying licorice together. As will I always cherish the quilt Gloria knitted for the birth of our daughter, Kyrah.

I take solace in knowing your long battle is over and you are now at peace and in the loving arms of your sweet Gloria.

I will miss you but the memories of you and the times we had together will always be in my heart. You were a wonderful person and friend and I can only inspire to be such a person as you.

Ted & Barbara,
I am saddened that I am unable to attend Frank's services. Please know that he is in my heart and I am thinking of you at this time. Your father was so special to me; I enjoyed being a part of his life. I felt lucky to have shared a special day with him, December 3rd, not only was his birthday but it is also my wedding anniversary. Each year on that day we would give each other a hug and congratulate each other on our special day. You are very fortunate to have such a wonderful & loving person for a father. My heart is with you both as well as your families during this difficult time.

With love

What a gallant finish to an inspiring life...I sorta felt him departing last night and this morning before I read your e mail.......Frank had such a grounding effect on me and had such a good sense of humor...The Lakers won one in his honor tonight... How fortunate you were to have him for so many years...You were a great son and I know he treasured you till the end...Our last encounter at Casa De Soria was just like the good old days with warmth, laughter, and fond memories...I guess we now hold tight the memories and the legacy until time heals the pain...May your tears of sorrow eventually turn to tears of joy that Frank had such wonderful life with so many blessings and no regrets...Looking forward to celebrating his life with you on Tuesday. I just sent him a prayer..Bless Him and we send a Fond Farewell to a Dear Man...
