Frank Sammartano, 81, of Thousand Oaks, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2007.
He was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y. He was a Ventura County resident for 46 years, coming from the San Fernando Valley.
Frank retired from the Los Angeles City Fire Department after 27 years. He was a member of Westlake Community Christian Church.
Frank is survived by his wife of 56 yeas, Edith; daughters, Cathleen Disselhorst of Moorpark and Claire Massey of Thousand Oaks; grandsons, Jared Massey, Ryan Disselhorst and Paul Disselhorst; brother, Joe Sammartano of Chatsworth; sister, Eileen Kopin of Wisconsin; and aunt, Mary Varvaro of New York.
There will be a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary, with Pastor Michael McDonald officiating.
In lieu of flowers, to Los Angeles Firemen's Credit Union Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen's Fund, 2900 West Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90026.
Arrangements are under the direction of Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary, Westlake Village.

Edith, Cathy, and Clair,
I am so sorry to read of your loss. I will always remember Frank and you all for the special neighbors you were. I especially remember helping him out planting trees and screwing screws in to the boat hull he was building in the garage. Your mom and dad were always so kind to me when we played in the backyard. May God bless him and your family in this time of loss.

To Frank: To me you will always be the true man in that you possessed physical, emotional, and spiritual strength. You were always there for your family and friends.
