Helen J. Jakubiak, 87, passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 5, 2011.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, and her son, Paul.
Helen was born in Albany, N.Y., on April 3, 1923, to Louis and Adelia Josefchak, the youngest of three children.
She is survived by her son, Peter V. Jakubiak of Aurora, Ill., and her daughter, Lois Anne Meeker of Thousand Oaks; four grandchildren, Brittany, Peter Jr., Amanda and Andrew; and five great-grandchildren.
Helen retired from New York State Department of Audit and Control where she worked as a secretary of the Comptroller for over 20 years. After retirement, she moved to Hollywood, Fla., where she lived with her husband and sister Lillian for over 25 years before coming to live with her daughter Lois in Thousand Oaks.
She will be remembered for her love of movies, martinis and bingo!
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at St. Paschal Baylon Church on 155 E. Janss Rd., Thousand Oaks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 2325 N. Lakewood Ave., Chicago, IL 60614 or to Assisted Home Hospice, 468 Pennsfield Pl, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. Final internment will be at a later date at St. Agnes Cemetery in Albany, N.Y. The family would like to thank all the staff at Assisted Home Hospice in Thousand Oaks for the excellent care provided to Helen and the family during her last weeks of life. Assisting the family with arrangements is the family owned and operated Rose Family Funeral Home and Cremation of Simi Valley.
