Jacqueline Nicholl Obituary
Camarillo, CA
Jacqueline M. Nicholl, 88, of Camarillo, CA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7, 2015. She was born in Oxnard, CA, attended Somis School, Oxnard High School, and Mount St. Mary's in Los Angeles. She was a lifelong resident of Ventura County, primarily Camarillo. Jacqueline was a seventh generation native Californian. She was a descendant of Jose Francisco Ortega, who came to Alta California with the Portola Land Expedition and Father Serra in 1769.
Although she was primarily a homemaker, Jackie enjoyed the beach, traveling, and volunteering in the community. Jackie was also bestowed the great honor of being named a Dona by the Pleasant Valley Historical Society. This prestigious award is given annually to a small number of individuals residing in Camarillo, Somis, or the Santa Rosa Valley who have contributed greatly to the community. Historically, "Don" and "Dona" were Spanish titles of respect often given to nobility or, in California's case, to rancho owners such as Camarillo founding father Adolfo Camarillo.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mary Hernandez, and her husband, Richard "Rick" Nicholl. She is survived by her sister Mitzi Myers (husband Cloyd) of Nipomo, her four sons, Greg (wife Cyndi) of Camarillo, Doug (wife Janis) of San Clemente, Mike (wife Teresa) of Ojai, and Jeff (wife Teresa) of Camarillo, four grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and too many friends to count.
There will be a visitation and rosary held at Griffin Family Funeral Chapels 1075 E. Daily Dr., Camarillo on Thursday, November 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 13 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Jackie's name to the Pleasant Valley Historical Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Griffin Family Funeral Chapels (805)482-1166.
