Janet Merrill Obituary

Janet Ann Merrill passed away after a sudden illness on Oct. 8, 2008, in Colorado Springs surrounded by many devoted family and friends.

She was born May 14, 1955, in Dearborn, Mich., to Louis and Julia Kreuger.

Janet had just moved to Colorado in September for a better life for her and her four younger daughters. Her latest passion was her brand-new home and making it all she had ever dreamed it would be. She was just as passionate about doting on her grandchildren Ethan and Paige. Janet was happiest when her home was full of family, friends and children of friends. Janet had an in-home day care facility for more than 20 years. Through all those years so many babies and children touched her heart and made her smile. She even took guardianship of two friends of her daughters when they needed a place to live. When she put her home in Simi Valley up for sale she wanted to make sure someone with children bought it because that home was always filled with kids whether they were neighborhood kids, family kids, friends of friends, whomever. Her door was always open.

Janet's favorite hobby was shopping for gifts for others for every birthday and holiday. Her other favorite hobby was cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers no matter how they were playing.

If you asked a room full of our closest friends how to describe her in one word, they would say "Mom."

Janet was preceded in death by her mother and father, Julia and Louis Kreuger, and her nephew and godson, Rob Filkins.

Janet is survived by her husband, Donald Merrill; her daughters, Misty Antonio (husband Mark) of Simi Valley, Tara, Ashley, Lauren and Hailey Merrill of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Ethan and Paige Antonio; sisters, Wendy Basgall of Las Vegas, Debra Kreuger; Tracy Cortrite (husband Kevin), Dawne Brewer (husband Jim Brewer), and brother Brian Kreuger, all of Simi Valley, and numerous nieces and nephews, and other beloved family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church at 4191 Cochran St., Simi Valley, Calif.
