Jeanette Rust Obituary

Jeanette A. Rust, 80, died on September 12, 2013 at Providence Hospice. Jeanette loved the spring season so a Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2014.

She was born on December 9, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to Earl and Chloe (Tucker) Alexander; she was the 7th of eight children. Jeanette grew up in Bellflower, CA and graduated from Excelsior Union High School in 1950. She married W.A. "Bill" Rust on March 26, 1955.

The Air Force sent W.A., Jeanette and their two small children to Alaska in 1959. They lived in Eagle River for three years and experienced the birth of their third child. They were sent to Shepard Air Force Base in Texas in 1961. W.A. left the Air Force in 1962 and the family moved back to California, settling in Whittier. Jeanette was a great stay at home wife and mom. In 1969, the entire family picked up and moved to Eagle River, AK; where they still live.

Moving back to Alaska made it necessary for Jeanette to enter the workplace. She went to work for the Alaska State Housing Authority; working in the low income rental offices. She enjoyed interacting with the many people she met over the years. In 1987 Jeanette retired from the State.

Meeting new people and making friends was her favorite hobby. She loved spending time on the "A-Boat" exploring Prince William Sound with her husband. She was an awesome cook and loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed creating crocheted rugs.

Jeanette is survived by her husband of 58 years, W.A. Rust; daughter, Patricia and her husband, Lewis Lamson, of Eagle River; sons, William Rust of Eagle River and Joseph Rust of Anchorage; granddaughter, Katelyn Lamson of Eagle River.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Bill and family,
I want you to know my prayers are with you. I came to know your family as I worked at the Laundry mat. I got to see both Jeanette and bill every thurs. I so missed you when I went to work at Fred Meyers but looked forward to seeing you pop in on me. She was a great person full of laughter. I miss her!

I've lived next to Bill and Jeanette since I was a kid. She is the closest thing to a grandmother that my brother, sister and I ever had. She was always excited to see us as we grew up and started our own families. I had the honor of visiting Jeanette and Bill in these last few months. She loved by so many and will be deeply missed

I so enjoyed my friendship with Jeanette and Bill,(one of my favorite artists), while I lived in Eagle River. I especially enjoyed volunteering with Jeanette at the Alaska Museum of Natural History while it was located in Eagle River. She had a good sense of humor and was always welcoming. I know that the Rust family, friends, and neighbors will miss her very much.
