John R. Erbeck, Ph.D. passed away peacefully with his family by his side in the morning of October 10, 2012. John was 67 years old.
John was born in White Plains, N.Y. on April 12, 1945 the only child of John and Janette Erbeck. Education was an important part of his life. He attended the Harvey School and Trinity-Pawling Preparatory School.
Upon winning a New York State Scholarship for both academic and athletic achievements, John attended Colgate University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with B.A. in Psychology. He completed his first two M.S. degrees at Long Beach State University and received a third from Florida State University. John also received his Ph. D from FSU and graduated at the top of his class.
In 1979, Dr. Erbeck began a private practice in Ventura where he continued to see patients until his untimely passing. Dr. Erbeck was very dedicated to the profession of Psychology. Dr. Erbeck was active in his community and his profession. He served on the board for the Swift Memorial Health Care Foundation, Calif. Psychological Association and the Ventura Co. Psychological Association, his HOA and several others.
Jack met the loved of his life, his wife Carolyn, in June of 1989. They spent the next 23 years virtually inseparable. They worked together, played together, traveled together and explored their many mutual passions. Jack also became a father to Carolyn's daughter Jennifer. They made a happy family. Together they all enjoyed the love and company of family, friends, and pets. Jack and Carolyn truly enjoyed being married.
Jack loved to spend time with his friends laughing and watching sports ("Go Lakers") and FSU Seminoles. He was a very kind , loving man, a wonderful husband, father, friend and a true gentleman. We have lost a very special person, who is dearly missed.
A devoted husband and father, Jack is survived by his loving wife Carolyn; his daughter Jennifer; sister-in-law Pattie (Tim), Ethel, Dorothy, and Kay as well as several nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Services will be private.

It is nice to see this most recent post, knowing others are visited in their dreams by the Doc. I have had a few visitations and they always bring me much happiness.
One of the best I had was him riding on my Bike MS team. At the day's end party we had beers together. That's right beer, not wine. This dream coming from off topic conversations of beer and wine we had. I learned things about wine from him and he learned things about brews from me. That was a great chat Jack!
I miss our visits here on earth, but I'm pretty sure you are being kept busy on the other side and being ever so helpful.
Continued blessings to you Carolyn with love in my heart.

Dreamed of you last night Jack. First time in years and years. It was a good dream. I think of you fondly. I wish we had been allowed to talk towards the end. You introduced me to so very much, and overall, made my life better. I will remember you always and hopefully we will be allowed to talk and laugh again together on the other side. XO

I saw Dr. Erbeck as a young boy, and through his guidance and understanding molded me into a young man who now has a successful career in the military. Many of my accomplishments today would not be possible without the solid guidance of a smart, compassionate, and humbled man growing up. You will truly be missed and alway's remembered.

Dear Carolyn,
I'm so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. Jack and I and our running group spent many great hours together running all over the area in the 70's and 80's. He was a great and funny guy. When we meet again in heaven we'll greet each other with a hearty "Ho-o-o-o-o!"
Here's a picture of Jack in the 1980 Mulholland Relay. This is the picture that I always have in my mind when I think of Jack.

I knew Dr. Erbeck, briefly, as a fellow psychologist. I saw him as a gentle, strong, smart, sweet guy. Unfortunately, cancer is rarely "fair." Sorry to hear that he's died; he was one of the "Good People."

I am thankful for the time I had with Dr. Erbeck and his helpful guidance for many years....he always guided me in the right direction. I will miss our time together, the tears, brief Dodger updates and the much enjoyed laughter.
Dr. Erbeck was a remarkable man that I was blessed to have in my life. He was a professional and a dedicated doctor to his patients. He listened and gently gave input, as needed, but always smiled.
Carolyn may the beautiful memories you shared with Dr. Erbeck help you through this difficult time and bring smiles to your beautiful face.
HK Belles will add "We walk for a cure in loving memory of Dr. John Erbeck" as we continue to walk for a cure for all cancers.
God Bless,
Susan S.

Dear Carolyn,
Please accept my condolences and deepest sympathy. I have too many fun memories to count when I lived next door. Immediately what comes to mind was when you and Jack took me to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time. I think about you and Jack every time I drive by it..which is often. Your wedding still remains one of the most beautiful I've ever attended. I really could go on and on and so I hope that your memories together will help you go on.
I am running a half marathon this weekend in AZ. I will be using Jack as inspiration, as well as too many other friends battling this horrible disease.
With Love,
Dixie (Dick) Van Landingham

Was this a Jack of all trades? No. A master of one who cares for many and much in this world? Yes. I am thankful for the time I had with him here and his helpful guidance from sad and dark places. I will miss our time together, the tears and the much enjoyed laughter. I raise my glass to you Doc. You'll be busy helping those on "the other side" now. Hang in there Carolyn, and all those missing him. His spirit is always with us at least :-)

I will always remember Jack as a wonderful neighbor and friend -- an exceptional spirit who loved people and animals -- off he went on his bike to the work he loved -- he always took that extra moment to greet the neighbor, the dog, & even the cat with an uplifting humor. While a tremendous loss to his wonderful Carolyn & our neighborhood - he will forever remain in my heart as a reflection of what sincere goodness the world has to offer.

Carolyn and Family
A good man and a great voice have been taken from us much too soon. Any one that heard Jack laugh immediately felt his warmth and caring. We must confess that we often told him a joke, not only to kid him, but also to hear that warm and friendly friendly laugh which was a reflection of his concern for others. We know that you can take some degree of comfort in knowing how much he affected others.
