John Paul Herrick

John Paul Herrick was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 25, 1941 to Ruth and Paul Herrick.

He grew up in Culver City and attended school there until he joined the U.S. Navy as a High School Grad Airman Recruit at the age of 17. He proudly served in the Military for 20 years while stationed in Japan, Hawaii, Northern and Southern California and eventually settling in Ventura at the Naval Base Point Mugu. He served in Vietnam as an Aviation Ordnanceman on P3's and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1977. He also obtained his Real Estate license in 1977 and then in 1979 he became a Real Estate Broker and started his own company, Herrick Property Management, which is still thriving today. John was a member of the Ventura County Board of Realtors for many years and in 1990 they elected him President.

He enjoyed and excelled in many outdoor sports and hobbies. He was State Junior Champion in archery and a star player on many fast pitch softball teams. He won many first place trophies and medals in trap and skeet shooting competitions. He loved hiking (especially on Topatopa Mountain), fishing and playing racquetball with family and friends. He also found joy in volunteering for the local Lions Club and giving service to the community. His favorite place to be was in his backyard where he cherished the time gardening and feeding all of the birds, squirrels and lizards. He adored his many dogs over the years and especially loved sharing time with his wife, family and grandchildren.

He was a kind, compassionate, generous, supportive and loving man. He passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side.

He was survived by his wife, Susan (of 52 years), his children, Daren and Denise, his grandchildren, Kane, Isabella, Clayton, Madeline and Donavon, his brother, David and sister, Melanie.

There will be a Military Graveside Service at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, in Ventura, at 1:00 pm. on Saturday, September 24, 2016.
