John Pulido Obituary

John Edward Pulido Sr.

Oak View - John Edward Pulido Sr., lifelong Ventura County resident passed away unexpectedly June 17, 2021. He was member of long time Ventura Chumash family, going back some 13 generations. John's parents, siblings, nieces and nephews surrounded him at the time of his passing, as well as his dog Lucy who stayed by his side.

John was born along with his twin Edward, to their parents Mike and Carol Pulido in Ventura on August 19, 1970. He lived his entire life in Ventura County and spent his early years on the Canet Ranch (Rancho Canada Larga) where his grandfather Mike managed for many years. In 1975, the Pulido's moved to Oak View-Ojai area where John and Edward met so many of their lifelong friends, and where he played baseball, rode bikes, and got into as much trouble as he could. John and Edward served as Altar Boys at the Old Mission for many years. John was a well-known Barber for more than 25 years following in the footsteps of both parents. His passion was watching football, as he was a die-hard Raiders fan!

John loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman since he was a young boy, and spent countless days fishing local lakes, along the Rincon, and in the Eastern Sierra. John had an enormous heart and was always willing to help someone in need no matter his or her walk of life. We are saddened by John's early passing knowing that he is completing the journey that the Creator had planned for him. John's mind, body, and spirit are finally at peace again in the wholeness of his being.

John is survived by his parents Mike and Carol Pulido, wife Yvonne Varela-Pulido, their son John Edward Pulido Jr, Alex & Adam Barrios (their mother Rhonica), Mark Rodriguez, and grandkids - Robert, Edward, Raymond Rodriguez, Isaac and Victoria Barrios - and step-children Brianna & Joseph Padilla. John leaves his brothers Marty, Mark, and twin brother Edward (Joel), sisters Raylene Lopez (Danny) and Carrie Pulido (Rigo), Uncles/Aunts Dr. Alex & Anita Pulido, Ermalinda; Johnny Lorenzana, Angelina & Ray Zavala, godparents Pat & Leo Lopez and all of their extended families. John was especially close to his many nephews, nieces, cousins and godchildren: Sierra, Rubi and Rose, Gabby Lopez & Andy Arrieta, and always wanted them to know how special they were to him.

John was preceded by his grandparents Mike and Carmen Pulido, Philip and Edna Rodriguez, Grandma Louisa McLean, Cousin Lisa Pulido, David Betti, Joel Adame and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation is planned for Thursday July 1, 2021, from 3-6 pm with a 6 pm Prayer Service at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ventura. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday July 2, 2021, 10 am at the Old Mission Basilica San Buenaventura with Fr. Tom Elewaut officiating. Hermano John,
Your news hit profoundly.
I have always felt such a sincere closeness to you.
Times that we have shared through the decades were of the highest quality!
It was Sarcasm, laughter, hijinks, etc. Just the proper way to enjoy the gifts that of opportunity, that life gives us!
I recall after our first trip to Tucson (about 2001), you told me "You are Edward's and my third twin".
I thought he was gonna say something like..... I won't tolerate you, ever again!
That solidified our relationship through the years.
I can honestly say I've never had a bad time with him.
He would elevate the Pulido experience, to the TOP OF THE TOP!
All I can say that is that he elevated my life and I appreciate the times I spent w him.
Your memory will be kept alive..........
Love you Hermano John

Hermano John,
The profound effect hit immediately!
Bigger smiles, hugs and even kisses than getting from your Fancy Eduardo twin!
I always looked forward to getting together with you.
Your spirit shined when you were present!
Ever since many, many years ago we met, you pierced a permanent place in my heart, that will remain forever in my soul!!!!
I miss not being sarcastic, laughing, crying, telling stories and basically enjoying you, as part of my life!
You will be missed brother!

Our condolences to all the Pulido family. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. John was a easy, funny, and all around nice person to talk to and be around. I remember seeing him around Oakview riding his bike all over He would crack me up every time I'd see him. Then later years I ran into the him at the Barber shop. Anthony, being Rams fan, like to talk football but would wait till he was out of his barber chair to talk about the Raiders.
They would laugh talking BS to each other, John you will be missed. RIP

Pulido Family-
I am so very sorry to hear about John. He was my barber for many years while I lived in Ojai. We shared many wonderful stories and became good friends. We both were passionate about sports and the outdoors. He was a tremendous person and I am a better person for having known him. He will be missed.
