Lee Clark Obituary

Lee Clark

Ventura, CA

The world has one less bright shining star since Lee Clark of Ventura passed away last Tuesday, April 24, after a 2 year battle with cancer. A valiant fight indeed.

Lee was an amazing father, son, brother, husband, friend and fisherman. He was generous with his time, his amazing megawatt smile, his love and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Lee was born in Santa Barbara, CA to John and Marjorie (Chock) Clark on February 25, 1957. His sister Lin was born soon after, and the two were very close growing up with Lee looking out for his little sister in their hometown of Summerland, where many of his childhood friends who are still friends today also lived. His boyhood adventures with his pals still elicit fun stories from those same friends.

An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Lee began fishing commercially with his father at an early age on The Giaconda out of Santa Barbara Harbor. He fished frequently in his adult years and often said his "Church was on the water". During his illness, many of his fishing friends made sure to get him out fishing as often as possible on long range tuna trips onboard the American Angler, and the local Sportfishing charter boats Stardust and Coral Sea. He loved his time with all of the Captains and crew. He joined a group called Rollo's Fishing for Kids, and had a recent life altering experience when an inner-city girl he was teaching to fish told him she wished he was her Grandfather, touching him deeply.

He loved his family and friends unconditionally, giving the best hugs ever. His children lived in Montana but were always close to his heart! He remarried in 2003 to his current wife Sharon, and loved his step-daughters and her family as his own. He had an amazing, generous heart.

Lee was a dedicated employee of DCOR, LLC, working most recently as Lead Operator at the onshore gas separation plant Rincon Onshore or ROSF. He leaves behind many friends among his colleagues there. He began his career in the oilfield with Unocal in 1982, after proudly serving in the Marine Corps for 4 years as an Anti-tank man in the 1st Marines, 1st Marine division, earning Rifle Expert and Pistol Sharpshooter badges. He maintained his sharpshooter skills throughout his life, hunting deer, elk, bear, duck and recently traveling with great friends to Utah to go squirrel-shooting.

Lee and Sharon enjoyed traveling from their home base in Ventura and spent many memorable times on road trips to Montana to see his kids, trips to Hawaii to see his sister and extended family and exploring ancestral sites from his Mother's side of the family. A memorable trip to Panama, cruises and many more, enriched their time together.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Matthew (Emily), Jenny Lin, Michelle Marie Wolff (Logan), Nicholas Stuart (Monica) and his step-children Kaylene "Katy" Jaworski (Chan Wang) and Janelle Jaworski, sister Lin (Wilson) Miller and parents John and Marge Clark. He is also survived by grandchildren Elizabeth and Elise Clark (Matt and Emily, parents), Bentley Joe and Ellie Michelle Clark and step-grand Lexi (Nick and Monica), step-grandchildren Emma (Michelle and Logan) and Sophia Lyuan (Kaylene and Chan) and a large extended family of Uncles, Aunties and cousins in California and Hawaii.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Toro Canyon Park, 570 Toro Canyon Road, Summerland, on May 5th at 1PM. A tri-tip BBQ will follow. Please bring a side dish, salad, dessert or beverages to share. Hawaiian attire suggested. It is not goodby for this Flyin' Hawaiian, but see you later! Bent rods and tight lines forever!

I was Lee Clark's friend, neighbor and I also worked with Lee.
Me and Lee worked for UNOCAL, we were hired one day apart and we both became control room operator around the same time on platform Gilda, we both owned homes in Ventura across the street from each other and our kids played together.
Lee was a good man, a good father, a good friend and a very good fisherman, he will be missed by many people family, friends and everyone who met him.
Rest in peace my friend my you be with our Lord in heaven.

My dear, sweet Big Brother, Lee: I feel immensely blessed to have spent my life basking in the warmth of your genuine soul. You've been right there next to me, watched over me when we were little, dutifully held my little hand in your little hand, tenderly guided me to the bus, to school and back home again. I recall fighting only once, as kids: I threw something that hit your forehead; the moment I saw your blood, I cried, horrified that I'd harmed you. We hugged each other tight, and I knew we'd never fight again. As we grew old, from opposite shores or the middle of the Pacific, it was simply understood that we were there for each other. I pray I was half as incredible a sister as you were a brother. I will treasure forever the memories of our special ohana gatherings and the laughter and joy they brought. Yours was the biggest, purest, kindest heart no doubt the source of that cheerful disposition and easy grin. I think I'll miss that goofy laugh and your crazy expressions the most well, right after those amazingly enveloping big-bro bear-squishes of yours that made me feel so safe and content, so loved ... Maia's right: You did give THE BEST hugs in the world! Selfish me wants to be wrapped up in another reassuring Lee-hug, but you didn't deserve to suffer so much for so long, so gracious me is okay with God calling his Angel back home to fisherman heaven. Now, as my head struggles to grasp the inconceivable notion of a world without Lee in it, my heart will hold fast to the serendipity of having known and loved you, so very grateful for the chance to share your time here for as long as I did. Angel fish await, so aloha for now, dear, sweet Big Brother, Lee....
