Our sweet Raymond "PORKY" Duran has entered the kingdom of our heavenly Father on March 26, 2012.
Porky was a lifetime resident of Ventura County, born and raised in the La Colonia. Porky was very well known throughout the community; he was one of the co-founders of LA GENTE car club and he dedicated a great deal of his time doing community outreach. He kept LA GENTE car club close to his heart and was a true supporter of all other car clubs. He was passionate about music, loved dancing, was an avid collector, loved car shows, yard sales, thrift stores and enjoyed going to the casinos.
He was a lifelong fan of the UCLA Bruins and loved sporting their attire. He touched many lives with his great spirit, laughter, energy and most importantly, his friendship. He lived each day of his life to the fullest no matter what obstacles were in his way. Porky's greatest quotes were: "SUNSHINE BLUE SKIES!" or "PARTY OVER HERE!" and will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his wonderful and beautiful wife, Estela Duran; mother, Lola Lopez; brothers: Eddie Ortega (Teresa), Louis Duran (Santos), Larry Duran (Sharon), Carlos Apodaca (Connie), Jimmy Duran (Mary Helen), Andy Juarez; sisters: Carmen Apodaca, Angie Juarez, Christy De La Rosa (Danny), Terry Villareal (Arthuro), Lulu Estrada (Medardo).
From the Garcia's "The Greatest Little Man with the Biggest Heart," We love you and will miss you. Thanks for all your kindness and love you gave our family.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, in the Santa Clara Mortuary Chapel, 2370 North H Street, Oxnard. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Santa Clara Church, 323 South E Street, Oxnard. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H Street, Oxnard. Hi Porky, you're genuinely missed-especially your smile, funny jokes, and big heart. You were always a happy-go-lucky friend and very intelligent! You were a beautiful person inside and out, and your positive energy was contagious. I remember we both worked in the mid-90s at Ventura County Workforce Development. I took the position of Vocational School Director at CET, and as a close and good friend, you left your job to be my right-hand man to collaborate and obtain more business from Workforce Development. And you succeeded! We worked well together and had fun; there was a lot of laughter. Working with you didn't feel like we were working. We had a great time. You are a dear friend, and I will never forget you; I keep you close to my heart. Love ya Porky aka Ray. Peace be with you always! I am sure you have angel wings bigger than you! LOL

My older brother Porky has been gone for a long time now but his memories love on, will beyond his physical lifespan. I often speak of him. 2 weeks ago, I met a man that told me Raymond mentored him into the LA GHENTE CAR CLUB.
Just yesterday, I spoke to a man named Raymond Duran.
So many memories. I can still hear his high pitched voice. Always a joker. He loved to laugh and loved life. My older brother is truly missed by thousands. He touched so many lives in Oxnard and Ventura county. Whether in the Lowrider scene and within the community, helping youth and adults by counseling them while working for the county.

Dear Estella and Family,
I grew up with Ray in Colonia. Played Little league at the Boys Club on 7th .
He was an instrumental person in our community whose passion was to help people achieve.
He had a knack of being at the forefront on many political and social issues and influenced many.
Ray will always be known to us as a leader within the neighborhood where he grew up in. Ray never forgot his neighbors or his many friends.
I teach at Ramona School and remember Ray at the rededication of the school in 2000. He told the audience that day that he wanted all the children to benefit and gain from the work that so many from the Colonia had worked so hard to achieve.
Ray, I will continue to make that known to them, I promise.

To the family of "Porky"Duran,
So many things have been said about this truly wonderful man. Porky touched the lives of so many people in his hometown of Oxnard and La Colina. I had the privelege of meeting Porky in the 70's during his activist days. He worked tirelessly for his community, with his unique connect with people and he had that great high pitched voice that we all loved to hear.
I worked as a Probation Officer for Ventura County and witnessed his unique ability to connect with clients and point them in a positive direction. I can truly say Porky was one of the kindest, most caring person I have ever met. Rest in Peace. A friend always, Bobby

Porky was a sweetheart.
Friendship was forthcoming & real from Porky.
He knew both my sisters before he knew me. He knew my older sister Virgie from when Bank of A. Levy had a bank on Cooper Rd. He knew my younger sister Annie from C.E.T.A. AND J.T.P.A.
Then I bumped him into him at “The Library”. He liked to dance. I can see him now, twirling around and waving his hands. He was fun and he made me feel like I was part of the “IN” crowd. You know there's always an IN crowd, the “La Gente” family, “The Library” crowd. Back then it was “OUR TIME”. And he welcomed me into it.
He had many friends and I made many friends because of him. I remember when he introduced me to his wife Stella at the Esplanade Mall. I was so happy that he finally found someone he could settle down with. It was always a pleasure to run into Porky & Stella anywhere, Target, The swap meet, the Santa Paula Citrus Festival, etc….
Over the years life got in the way and we lost contact with Porky. Took things for granted. I am so honored to be able to say that Porky was a big part of my life and my family's life & our memories
Now that he's gone, a hole exists in my mind & heart. I actually do not feel whole any more.
Until we meet again Porky. Love you and will always miss you. GOD BLESS and PARTY ON!!!

I was truly sadden by the news that my old friend Porky had passed away way before his time. I grew up in the same neighborhood as Porky. We both attended grammar through high school together. I was happy to have met Porky again after about fifteen years at the Ventura Mall about three years ago. We had a chance to talk about how things were going. It was a very nice reunion of old friends meeting again after so many years. My only regret is not being able to attend his services in order that I can pay my respects to all his family members. Howver, my thoughts and prayers are with all his family members and friends during this most difficulty time. May God Bless you Porky.

I am proud to call you brother. You inspired multitudes to continue their education, live fun and hearty lifestyles, and your legacy of encouragement lives on forever. Whenever I met someone from the Oxnard area, they always seemed to know you and have a great story to tell me about my older brother. I have also followed you in counseling and mentoring others in the inner cities but you've been doing it for many more years and have impacted Ventura County. I can still hear your crazy high pitched voice and laugh. We both look so much like our dad and I will always love you. I know we still have alot of family that need strength right now, and I will continue to love them all. THANK YOU for everything brother! - Your baby brother Jimmy "Sincerely" Duran

Our deepest condolences to the Duran familia our prayers to you're family on you're loss. We will always remember "Porky" for his awsome car club we were very young and always got super excited when we would see all the cars go by... But love seeing them on Saviers road back in the Good old days cruising with his car club.
