It's with much sorrow that we announce the passing of our dearly loved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather, on October 19, 2010 at a Salt Lake City, Utah hospital.
Ray was born on the Aliso Canyon Ranch in Santa Paula, California on June 15, 1914. His mother was Rebecca Olivas Yanez, a descendant of the Olivas Adobe, His father, Josef Yanez. Ray was raised on the Aliso Ranch along with his five brothers and six sisters. He attended Holy Cross and Ventura High School.
He spent his life training and showing horses, and winning many coveted awards for PCQHA. Ray became an approved judge for all breeds, which took him across the continental United States, Hawaii and Alaska.
He is survived by his wife Yvonne; son Wayne (Beth) of Ventura; son Dan (Linda) of Kansas and daughter Janette of Illinois; step daughter Vivian (Steve) of Utah; stepdaughter Jan (John) of California; step-daughter Susie (Bob) of California; many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Ray loved his horses, his family, and many friends; no one was a stranger to him. He did not stop riding horses until he was 90 years old.
We are grateful for his good life. There is a big void in our lives now, Ray will be forever missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
Please join us for a memorial celebrating his life at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 8 at the Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main St., Ventura.

Ray helped me find my first horse back in 1987 and became my friend. We would go to the Somis Market for lunch and he had the best stories. What a life he lived and always had a sparkle in his eyes . . . he was a real cowboy

Smokey, Janette, and Dan and families. One of my earliest memories when our family moved to Oxnard in 1947 was meeting Ray, Marie, and you children at my Uncle Bill's Moorpark ranch. Ray and my dad became the best of friends and it was always fun spending two weeks every summer with your family.
Ray was a gentleman and always made it a point to make sure that I had my mare well fitted out and properly saddled.
I still have some pictures of our hunting/camping trips with the Yanez clan that date back to the 1940s and 1950s, and when I heard of Ray's passing, I got them out to renew old memories. What fond memories, indeed.
I pray that you will find peace in your hearts in knowing that your dad was so well loved and respected by so many people across the country. Sincerely, Jim Schwindt Sheridan, Montana

We moved to California in Jan 1947 and Ray was foreman for my uncle Bill on his Moorpark Ranch. Ray and his family were close personal friends and I do remember as a youngster the deer hunting trips in Aliso Canyon. Ray rode some the great horses my uncle owned, from the Chee Chee mare, Bingo and the Georgia Mare to name a few. RIP Ray!!!

A true vaquero and horseman, from a long line of expert horseman who completely understood the traditional vaquero ways of the horse. The Yanez family of Aliso canyon were true pioneers, although the older generations are now gone, I hope the younger generations carry on the tradition. Ray, I hope the grass is stirrup deep, your reata new, your spade bit shines, and your cow pony spins in heaven, Adios Amigo
