Our hearts are broken beyond repair, Rogelio departed on January 23, 2014, from this earth to be with our Heavenly Father. Rogelio fought a courageous fight with cancer, but God decided he needed another great Angel and called his name to join his brother, Jose Manuel (Mane) in Heaven.
Rogelio was born on January 10, 1960 in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Saul and Guadalupe Juarez. He spent his childhood in Mexico being raised by his sister, Lupe, whom he considers a second mom. He immigrated to Oxnard, CA at the age of 15. Rogelio graduated from Channel Islands High School in 1979, and then attended Oxnard College where he ran cross country. He attended Cal Lutheran University and earned a BA in Spanish. Education was important to him, so he returned to school and obtained a Masters Degree in Spanish from UCSB.
Rogelio taught Spanish at Santa Clara High School for 11 years. At Santa Clara he coached cross country and the boys soccer team. He joined the Oxnard Union High School District as a Spanish teacher and boys soccer coach at Hueneme High School for four years. His goal was to be a teacher at his alma mater, Channel Islands High School. He was a Spanish teacher at CIHS for the past 12 years. Rogelio was the Boys Soccer Head Coach at CIHS and believed in helping his players develop their physical skills but more important their life skills. He was very proud of all his students and players.
Rogelio was known for his great smile and good sense of humor. He enjoyed having carne asada with family, watching Chivas play and listening to his brother Javier sing Mexican songs. He raised pigeons and was a member of the Ventura Pigeon Club. He always had positive things to say to everyone he met. Rogelio Silvestre leaves behind many loving memories to his parents, Saul and Lupe Juarez and his siblings, Herminio (Hilda), Ma. Guadalupe Garcia, Jose Luis (Guadalupe), Lilia Balcazar (Emilio), Roberto (Maria), sister-in-law Estela, and his favorite and dear younger brother, Javier (Lety).
He was dear to his mother-in-law, Maria De Los Angeles Campos, and brothers and sisters-in law, Jose Luis Campos (Landy), Maria del Carmen Diaz, Maria Estela Sanchez (Manuel), Pascual Campos (Conchita), Eliseo Campos (Ana), Maria Davies (Brian) and his dear Lety Campos.
He was known as Tio/Nino Silvestre to many nieces and nephews from the Juarez family. He was a special Tio/Nino to Alejandrita, Andrea, Javiercito, Beto, Saul, Oscar, Eric, Camilo, Ana Lilia, Jorge, Paulina, Lupita, Jr., Crystal, Javier, Benito, Monica, Andres, Danny, Luisito, Alex, Ricardo, Cesar, Gerardo, Gloria, Laura, Yolanda, Jr, Lorena and Chuche.
To the Campos family he was known as Tio/Nino Rogelio. His nieces/nephews/godchildren Tony, Fabi, Andriana, Liz, Ventura, Juan Carlos, Jessica, Jessie, Noe, Zazil, Tanya, Julie Lucrecia, Lucy, Marisol, Ana Ynez, Alonzo, Nena, Jando, Andres and Xavier will miss his jokes and good advice and unconditional support.
He was also Nino to Gustavo, Celeste, Victor, Clarissa, Elizabeth, Santiago and Rosie.
Rogelio was known for his caring nature and always having a positive attitude. He lived his life with simple but important principles. He taught his boys to be honest, work hard, perseverance, respect for other, offer always a helping hand, keep your faith and have fun.
His three sons, Rogelio Antonio, Sergio Esteban and Joel Angel are the love of his life. He was so proud of them and love them beyond believe. Everything that Rogelio did was always for his boys. They were the center of his heart, his pride and joy. Every time he called their name his smile became bigger and his eyes were brighter.
His boys learned the meaning of courage and what it means to be a warrior from him.
Rogelio you are the love of my life, my rock. You always provided me unconditional love and support. Your name is engraved in my heart. I know that God loves me because he blessed me when I became your wife. You made my life fabulous and taught to be patient and to have fun
.Until we meet again, I will take care of our boys just like I promised. I know you are flying high like your pigeons. We have a great Guardian Angel, named Rogelio.
May God Bless you! We love you.
El amor de mi vida.
Tu esposa, que te adora por siempre.

I met Rogelio when he and I were hired to teach at Santa Clara - he always had a smile and made one's day brighter. Eleven years later, after I had moved away and then returned, I was interviewed by Lucrecia for my current job. I was pleased to learn that Rogelio was still teaching. Fortunate are those students who have been taught/coached by Rogelio. My prayers go out to his family.

I couldn't believe that this had happened to Mr. Juarez he was always such a happy person. I had him my junior year at CIHS 2011-12 he was always making jokes, making the whole class laugh, his class was always fun to be in. Two of my cousins had him too when they went to CI and they loved him. He told us in class that he would go to a restaurant every weekend when he was younger and turns out it was my uncle's place. I will always remember him with a smile on his face. RIP Juarez.

About a week before the start of soccer season during my junior year at Santa Clara High School in the winter of 1991-92, my teammates and I learned that our coach would not be returning. We feared that our season would be canceled and we were very much desperate for a coach.
After Spanish class, I approached Senor, explained to him the situation, and asked, really pleaded, for him to coach us. I remember his surprise. I remember him saying something about not being qualified. I imagine I told him something like, "It's okay, Senor, we're good, we know what we're doing, we don't need you to teach us to play soccer, we just need you to be with us."
He said, yes. Thank God, he said yes. I say that for us, his my friends and I, his players: because more than twenty years down the line those seasons, that time together, those wins and losses, and laughs, still matter. And I say it for him. In the deep sadness of this news, what joy it has brought me to learn that Senor remained a soccer coach: a dedicated and successful and caring coach. How had no idea of the possibility when I approached his desk after Spanish class to ask of him an enormous favor. He probably couldn't imagine it either. How blessed we were in that he, he and I, together.
As a 16 year old kid, I also had no idea what I was really asking Senor do, when I begged him to be our coach. All these years later, as a high long-time high school teacher and varsity soccer coach, I know all too well what it was I asked of him, what it was he gave to us. He gave of himself, of his heart, of his time. He gave his energy and devotion. He took time away from his family and his other interests and his teaching. And he coached us, he inspired us, he guided us. He laughed with us and made us laugh. He celebrated and he consoled.
I'm often told by my players and by parents that I am good coach, a different coach, a coach that isn't consumed by competition. Although I didn't know it at the time, I learned to coach from Senor Juarez. I learned to coach like him. i learned to care for and value my players first and foremost as people: young people, both strong and fragile, finding their places not just on a team or on the field, but in this world and in their lives.
I will remember always your smile, Senor.
And I will be in debt forever for all you gave to me. My gratitude for your gifts, for your sacrifices, for your example is immense ... I try to pay it back, as you would want and expect me to, by caring for my students and players in the way that you taught me.
God bless you, good man. Y gracias, siempre gracias.

Whenever I walked into the teachers' cafeteria I could count on Rogelio to greet me with, "Razo! Como va la revolucion?" At first, I had no idea what he was talking about until he educated me in Chicano history about Luis Valdez's play, "Soldado Razo." I teach Mexican/Chicano literature, and this year I will teach this play in his honor. I am blessed to have known and worked alongside Rogelio. He was an kind, gregarious, and generous person. We are truly bereft to have lost such an amazing individual. My prayers and sincere condolences go out to his many friends and family. Descansa en Paz, Rogelio. Que viva la revolucion!

My deepest condolences to the Juarez and Campos families in the passing of a very special friend Rogelio Silvestre Juarez. He was like my big brother when I was growing up. I met Rogelio about 1978 or so at Channel Islands HS. Rogelio was always happy, smiling, friendly to everyone he met, and very funny, but was also very caring to those who needed help. He loved teaching and getting a great education and he accomplished both. Rogelio used to make all his friends laugh with his good sense of humor, lots of jokes and funny faces. I remember Rogelio used to love to sing Mexican songs when he was with his friends and many of us used to laugh because he was funny. I used run with Rogelio and he encouraged me to go out for cross country at C.I.H.S., so I did and I made the team. Rogelio will never be replaced but his memories will be with us forever. R.I.P Dear Friend.

My sincere condolences to the family of Rogelio on his passing. I was truly sadden by the news that Rogelio had passed away before his time. I met Rogelio while taking classes at Oxnard College and from that time on we became good friends. Rogelio was just out of high school at the time but already knew what he wanted to do after college. Although, I hadn't seen Rogelio since our college days. I always hoped that he would one day fulfill his dreams of becoming a teacher. I guess he did that and much more. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family members during this most painful and difficult time. I just hope all the fond memories he left behind will ease the pain. May Rogelio now rest in peace with our Heavenly Father as he was truly an honorable and respected person by all thoughts that got to know him. May God Bless all of his family.
