Ruby P. Haugrud of Camarillo passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007.
Ruby was born on Jan. 20, 1933, in Pelican Rapids, Minn., to Adolph and Petra Anderson. She was second youngest of 16 children. Rudy grew up in Minnesota, where she met and married her husband, Ken. They ventured west in 1955, settling in Lancaster, Calif., and then to Camarillo in 1963. Together, they established their new business, Pleasant Valley Glass Co., in 1969, where Ruby worked alongside Ken for several years in the office. Her specialty was picture framing.
One of Ruby's greatest joys in life came from raising their four children. Her love and devotion to her family and home will be dearly missed by her beloved husband of 55 years, Ken, and her daughters, Cheryl (John) Menzie of Camarillo, Joni (Dustan) Howard of Ventura, and Jean Jacobs of Camarillo.
Ruby will be reuniting in heaven with her pride and joy, son, Keith, who passed away in 1972, at the age of 13.
Grandma Ruby will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Jason Walters, Melissa (Ryan) Filek, Stacey Howard, Lisa Howard, Jessica Jacobs, and Kory Jacobs. She was exceptionally proud of each of them and took great pleasure in sharing time with them and keeping up on their interests and accomplishments. Ruby is also loved by many others and will be deeply missed by all of those who knew her.
Ruby was a caring and giving person who loved her family and loved the Lord. She was an actively involved member of First Lutheran Church for 44 years. Her church functions also served as a setting for Ruby to share another of her passions, baking for others. She was renowned for her expertise in preparing such Norwegian favorites as lefse and flatbread. Ruby was an excellent cook and delighted in making every holiday a culinary feast for family and friends. Although she was most at home in her kitchen, Ruby also enjoyed sewing, reading and gardening.
In addition to their cherished family times, Ruby and Ken enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii and Norway. While on their Norway trips, a search of their family ancestry was a favorite pastime. Ruby and Ken also looked forward to their annual summer vacations at their second home on Lake Maud in Minnesota, where they could spend time with their numerous relatives and friends who reside in Minnesota.
There will be a visitation and viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Griffin Family Funeral Chapel, 1075 E. Daily Drive, Camarillo. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at First Lutheran Church, 380 Arneill Road, Camarillo, with burial following at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Lutheran Church in memory of Ruby Haugrud.

You and Ken were my Godparents at my infant baptism and confirmation. Thank you for standing there in support of me. Although we are all shocked and saddened in losing you, we must take comfort in knowing that you are at peace with the Lord and will see your beautiful smiling face soon!

Dear Ken and Family-
It was more than a pleasure having you two as next-door neighbors as a child. My sister and I have very fond memories of Ruby taking care of us like we were her own grandchildren. She was always making us soup with crackers, doing fun art projects and giving good advice. We also enjoyed playing with your two grandaughters when they would come over and visit. We will never forget Ruby, and always have her in our hearts. She was such an amazing person.
Love-

Dear Ken and family,
Lynn and I have fond memories of stopping by Pleasant Valley Glass in the 1970's and 80's and having framing - or other glass work done - and visiting with you and Ruby. I especially enjoyed talking about our "common heritage" (Minnesota and Norway)!
And, I remember having Keith as a student - what a fine lad he was !
After we moved from Camarillo to Ojai - I would stop and visit with Joanie at her glass shop to find out how you and Ruby were.
Our thots and prayers are with you.

Thank you for always being there when I needed you, Aunt Ruby. You were the consummate aunt, the one who was always there in Camarillo while I was growing up in nearby Thousand Oaks during the 1960s and 70s. Cousin Keith and I were the same age, and my memories of those dark days of September 1972 will never leave me. You and my late father's younger brother Uncle Ken drove down to San Diego for my son's Marine Corps Boot Camp graduation ceremony in October 2004, and it was the last time that I saw you two. Tomorrow morning I fly out to San Diego and on Friday I will help carry my closest aunt to her final resting place on the mountainside next to my cousin Keith. You left us too soon, Aunt Ruby. You will be missed by many.
