Rudy Merrick Obituary
Oxnard, CA
Rudy Merrick Jr., age 44, beloved father and son, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
Rudy began working for the Northridge Post as a temporary employee at age 19. In 1993, Rudy began his Postal career with the Escondido Post Office and eventually transferred to the Ventura Post Office as a Supervisor where he remained until his passing.
Rudy was an avid fisherman from the time he was a little boy. His other hobbies included tropical fish tanks, birds, huge Karaoke fan and gardening. Rudy's entrepreneurship started very early in life. He and his brother, Russell, owned a pet store, Pic-A-Pet as teenagers. In 1987, Rudy was given a Bravery Award by Governor Deukmejian when he was 16 years old after pursuing a robber who attempted to stab him during the commission of a robbery in his pet store.
Preceding Rudy in death are his grandparents, John "Nunu" and Mary Jane Green "Nana", Grandfather, Rudy Merrick and his beloved Uncle Jim Green. Rudy maintained close family ties with his extended family.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Susana Merrick, teenage sons, Christian and Rudy III, step-daughters, Alicia Moyer (San Diego) and Karina Moyer (Oxnard), brothers Russell & Heather Merrick (Escondido), Ken & Jon LeMond and sister, Liz "LeMond" Olivera (Ventura). Rudy is also survived by his his mother, Jane LeMond-Alvarez, step-father, Leo Alvarez (Oxnard), Claude LeMond (Ventura) and father, Rudy Merrick and step-mother, Diane Merrick (Escondido) and grandmother, B. Eileen Merrick (Reseda). Rudy had many nephews and nieces as well as cousins who dearly loved him.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery located at 2370 North H Street, Oxnard, CA 93036. In lieu of flowers, anyone wanting to donate for Rudy's two son's college tuitions, please send to P.O. That picture of him is how I remember him. That smile. My first memory of Rudy was when Susana lived next door to me and he was there. I thought, wow, who's the red head? She introduced us and he just seemed so happy go lucky. Not sure what brought this on but he did a hand stand! It was a good one too. Not shaky or short. He could have done that forever it seemed. He made us all laugh. Although it wasn't the norm I thought yeah, he's different but in a good way. He was so confident about himself. He was cool. I could see that he was into Susana big time. At the time she said they were just friends but I knew he was going for it. Showing off doing a hand stand.
