Sally Reed Obituary

Sally Louise Reed

Oxnard, CA

Early Monday, January 9, 2017, Sally Louise Reed passed away at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital due to complications from a car accident a few days before. Sally was 70 years old.

Sally was born June 11th, 1946 in Carl Junction, Missouri. She was the second of five children born to George Walter Mangum and Jeanetta Kathleen Hight. The family moved to Oxnard, California when Sally was a young girl.

Sally often helped care for her younger siblings, especially when their mother worked nights. She was like a second mother to them and would take the youngest to work with her at one of her first jobs at the Hueneme Naval Base movie theatre.

Sally graduated from Hueneme High School in 1964. A few years later she met Wesley Otis Reed and soon they were expecting their first child, Dee Ann. The twins, James and Timothy, were born just a few years later. Sally, Wes and the kids lived in Fort Worth, Albuquerque, Santa Barbara, and a few other places, but eventually settled in Oxnard, California.

Sally was a homemaker when her kids were young and later in life she worked as a Home Care Aide for disabled people. She loved to bake her delicious banana or pumpkin bread for family holidays and her kids especially loved her spaghetti. She was thoughtful and would write long handwritten notes and cards on your birthday or other special occasion. Sally was a kind, listening ear to your troubles and a great person to share a laugh with.

Later in life, Sally lived with her mother and helped care for her.

Sally is survived by her two brothers, George (Skippy) and Larry, two sisters, Elizabeth (Liz) and Ronetta, her 4 children, Edward, Dee Ann, James, and Timothy, and her seven grandchildren.

An open invitation to a memorial in Sally's honor will be held Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 1-4pm at 1200 Del Prado Dr. Camarillo, CA 93010.
