Scott Mullaley Obituary

Scott Matthew Mullaley completed his earthly journey on Thursday, December 20, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones after an eight month battle with cancer.

Scott was born in Stockton on July 27, 1956, to Lester J. and Shirley J. Mullaley.

The family moved to Ventura County in 1958 and upon completing high school, he proudly served his country for seven years in the United States Air Force and CA Air National Guard working in fire protection. He returned to Ventura County and began his 30 year career as a firefighter for Ventura County Federal Fire at the Port Hueneme, Pt. Mugu and San Nicolas Island stations.

He retired as a Battalion Fire Chief on January 1, 2008, and after a short period of relaxation, went to work part-time as a Safety Officer for WEBCO Construction in Oxnard and proctoring California Physical Agility Testing for Oxnard College.

Scott enjoyed fishing, camping, raising chickens, watching NFL Red Zone and spending every Friday on the golf course with his close group of friends.

A man with a huge heart and generous soul, he became an American Red Cross volunteer and platelet donor and was always at the ready to help friends, family and strangers.

Scott leaves behind the broken hearts of his wife and best friend Irma; brother, Greg (Vivian); sister, Denise; godmother, Lois; three granddaughters; two stepdaughters; five nieces; two great-nephews; three great-nieces and a multitude of close friends.

The family wishes to thank the nurses at St. John's Regional Hospital for their compassionate care.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 28 at 11 a.m., in the Griffin Family Funeral Chapel, 1075 E. Daily Dr., Camarillo 482-1166.

Hi Irma, you don't know me I served with Scott in the USAF, matter of fact he was my "Best Man" when I was married years ago. Scott and I spent countless hours together laughing and enjoying life, I reconnected with Scott this year and was planning a visit. I was crushed by this terrible news. I am so very sorry for your loss, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Please accept our most sincere condolences, from all of us at the Cancer Center of Ventura County at St. Johns Hospital.

Scott was good friends with my sisters while growing up in North Oxnard. I'll always remember never being old enough or hip enough to hang out with the older kids on Kingwoods. However, Scott would take the time to joke with me whenever I pestered them which made me feel the coolest. Then, he left for the Air Force and became a fireman, which became my goal as well... Although my career took a diffent turn, it was Scott that started my outlook at life beyond Oxnard, as I joined the military. Rest in Peace, Scott. You'll never be forgotten.

Irma & family, Peg & I couldn't be sadder at Mull's passing. He was a good friend and brother firefighter. He & I worked together at Hueneme, Mugu and San Nick. We had recently made recontact at Ft. Irwin. It was a great reunion and enjoyed by us both. I was looking forward to seeing him more in the future. May God bless you and yours and keep you in his arms through your grief. I've lost a good friend who will be sorely missed. Skip & Peggy Westfield

Sorry Irma and family to hear of Scott's passing. Our prayers are with you all. I will remember the many trips Scott and I took to Rose Valley to catch our limit of trout. I say I always caught my limit and he tried hard but I'm sure he would have a different story. We have family visiting from NYC and won't be able to be with you Friday but send our deepest sympathies and prayer.
