Susan Borchard Obituary

Susan Borchard

Newbury Park, CA

Susan Borchard passed away in her sleep on December 29, 2018 at Mary Health of the Sick in Newbury Park, CA. surrounded by family and friends.

Susan Aileen Borchard was born on February 17, 1948 in Oxnard, CA, the daughter of Mary Daily Borchard and H. Oliver Borchard. She was educated in the local parochial elementary and high schools. She graduated from the University of Southern California in 1970 with a degree in Education and Social Science. In 1972, she received a Master of Science degree.

Remaining in the Los Angeles area, she taught elementary school for ten years, five for the Los Angeles Archdiocese and five for the Burbank Unified School District.

In the fall of 1980, Miss Borchard took a leave of absence from teaching and joined the Reagan-Bush campaign full time. Following the campaign, she went to work for the California Republican Party. In August of 1982, Miss Borchard moved to San Francisco and began her government service. She served as Regional Director of ACTION- The National Volunteer Agency. Ten months later she moved to Washington D.C. to work in the Reagan White House, where she served as the Director of Presidential Boards and Commissions.

Miss Borchard was stricken with a brain aneurysm and a stroke at the age of 38. In 2008, Miss Borchard suffered another stroke and at that time found her new home at Mary Health of the Sick, where she has lived the past ten years. She has never wavered in her love of God, country, family, friends and Mary Health Staff.

We wish to thank Dr. Dattoma, the sisters and staff at Mary Health for their loving care of Susan. In lieu of flowers we ask you to donate to a charity of your choice, to Mary Health of the Sick or the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2018 at 10am at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel, 2532 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, CA. with an interment to follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H St. Oxnard, CA.

Susan has been entrusted to the care of the family owned and operated Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A St. Oxnard, CA.

Miss Borchard was my 7th Grade teacher. She was a lovely, caring, compassionate person. Miss Borchard loved us all. I was sorry she left us at St. Martin’s in Brentwood. Both my late sister, Joan, and I were taught by Miss Borchard. She was always cheerful, beautifully dressed, and had a smile for everyone. I had heard of her having had a stroke, but did not know what happened. Thank goodness for the internet! I loved our Miss Borchard, and wish her peace. Those were blessed days, and didn't we have fun! Susan possessed THE STRONGEST SPIRIT and PURE DETERMINATION. I'm so sorry to read about Susan. I worked for Dr. Amorteguy and always enjoyed visiting with Susan.
She was always so upbeat and dressed so nicely.
Rest in Peace.
