Theresa Marie Dexter, 53, of Simi Valley, passed away at her home on Dec. 26, 2011. Her family was by her side as she peacefully drifted off.
Teri was born Theresa Marie Hilmes on Nov. 8, 1958, in St. Louis, Mo., the first of five children to Richard and Elizabeth Hilmes, and was the beloved wife of Robert Dexter for over 32 years. They lived together in Simi Valley for 25 years. Growing up in St. Louis she attended Rosary High School. She met her husband Robert in 1978 at the Steak and Shake Commissary and they were married in 1979.
Bob and Teri moved to California in 1982 where Teri attended Moorpark College and California State University, Northridge. She earned her Associates, Bachelors, and teaching credential. For the past 15 years she has worked as a teacher in both elementary and middle school. She loved teaching math the most and always had a passion for making education fun.
Teri loved to go camping and hiking. You could usually find her riding her bike with her good friend Sue on the weekends. She also loved sports, especially football and baseball. She never betrayed her hometown always rooting for the St. Louis teams. She was a happy hostess and loved to serve her self-proclaimed "World Famous Chili." But most of all she enjoyed being with her family, having fun with friends and teaching her students.
Teri is survived by her husband, Robert, and her three children, Jenny, Angie and Kevin. She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity and maintained her courage and positive attitude all the way to the end.
She will be sorely missed by countless family, friends, coworkers, and students and her presence in our life is a gift we will always be thankful for.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Reardon Funeral Home in Simi Valley.

Teri...you were the most positive, loving person. Always a bright outlook no matter how difficult the situation. I loved working with you back in the preschool days and I loved our continued friendship. You have touched so many people and their life is better for it. You are greatly missed.

I had the pleasure and honor of teaching with Terri several years ago. She was a genuinely GOOD person i.e. one of the best! Terri was smart, dedicated to teaching, and devoted to her family. She was a wonderful listener, too. Terri, I will miss you dearly.

You were like another Mother to me. I hope to be able to raise a family that is as close and holds such great values as you raised yours to have. I am so lucky to have had you in my life and I see so much of you in Ang so your strength, love and ability to light up a room lives on through your children. Thank you for being in my life. I hope to use the example of strength you have showed me is possible in my own life, as I am trying to use it today already. I love you Teri you will always have a price of my heart.

Teri, I remember when we were little girls and your mom called you "Theresie", we ran barefoot through the neighborhood, and your amazing generosity was already budding with your backyard carnivals to benefit Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. I will miss you, and I hope to be reunited with you some day.

I will forever treasure our friendship of more than twenty years...we were more than friends,,we became family...no holiday was complete without the Dexters...cookie decorating,Christmas caroling and light hunting when the children were young, Easter egg hunts and bowling on Thanksgiving and so much more. Teri has always been an inspiration..always kind, caring, positive and strong. She amazed me as she battle breast cancer without a complaint,,always so positive and strong. she faced this final battle with the same strength and dignity. she will forever be in my heart.
