Thomas Barrera Obituary
Thomas Barrera, also known as "Tommy," passed away on Oct. 3, 2007, at the age of 22, by a senseless tragedy.
Tommy was born on May 8, 1985, in Oxnard. As a member of the Oxnard Community, he participated in many local sports teams such as Northside Little League baseball, AYSO soccer, Rio Real Bulldogs basketball and El Rio Youth football.
Tommy touched the hearts of all who knew him. Family and friends describe him as fun-loving, caring and someone with a prankish-sense of humor.
Tommy is survived by his mother, Maria G. Lazos; stepfather, Oscar Serrano; brothers, Robert and Andrew; nephew, KiKi and also a nephew or niece he never got to know; grandma, Damiana Cortez; grandpa, Juan Lazos; aunts, Rosa, Chris Jackson and husband, and Hilda Bocanegra and husband; uncles, Oscar and Johnny; sisters-in-law, Elene and Joanna; girlfriend who loved him very much, Vanessa; father, Tomas Barrera Sr.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
Tommy's family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, with rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m., at Santa Clara Mortuary, 2370 North H St., in Oxnard. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1005 Colonia Road, in Oxnard. The burial will be immediately following at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery in Oxnard.

TO the Barrera family, Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with all of you in this difficult time. My daughters and myself knew Tommy when he attended Rio Real. He was a very nice guy and was always smiling. Everywhere he saw us he would tell us HI. Once he left Rio Real I never saw him again but I always wondered what had ever happened to him, until my daughter asked me if I remembered him and told me what had happened to him.
