Dr. Xiaohong Bei, of Oak Park, Calif., passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2011, at home surrounded by her closest family.
Xiaohong was born in Nantong, Jiangsu province, China, on Dec. 8, 1961, as the eldest daughter of Mr. Shengmo Bei and Ms. Yunxian Wang. Xiaohong received a Bachelor degree in Chemistry from Zhengzhou University in China in 1982 and a Master degree in Physical Chemistry from graduate school at Nankai University in China in 1986. Xiaohong worked in China till 1992 before moving to USA for higher education. Xiaohong obtained a Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry from The University of Iowa in 1997. Xiaohong worked as a scientific professional for over 18 years with careers at Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing, China, The University of Iowa, Iowa, Symyx Technologies Inc., California, Materia Inc., California and Momentive Performance Materials Inc., West Virginia.
Xiaohong's scientific career led to many significant scientific contributions which are well documented in numerous (over 30) patent and peer-reviewed journal publications. Xiaohong married Anil Guram on July 13, 2004, in San Jose, Calif., and later gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Niyati, on Jan. 2, 2008 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Xiaohong was very passionate about her scientific education/career, cooking, honesty, family and friends. Xiaohong was a very beautiful woman and exhibited a very warm, intelligent, caring, and passionate personality; all of these traits are clearly evident and proudly continue in her young daughter, Niyati.
Xiaohong will be dearly missed and remembered by her family and friends forever. Xiaohong is survived by her husband, Anil Guram; daughter, Niyati Guram; stepson, Amit Guram; stepdaughter, Kripa Guram; father, Shengmo Bei; mother, Yunxian Wang; and sisters, Lili Bei and Xiaoling Bei. A cremation service was held on Aug. 26, 2011, which was followed by a memorial and placement service on Aug. 29, 2011, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary and Memorial Park in Westlake Village, Calif.
