Sally Swett Obituary

SALLY ELIZABETH NELSON SWETT Sally (Sara) Elizabeth Nelson Swett was born on November 29, 1932, to Henry Leroy Nelson and Enid Weeks Nelson of Ioka, Utah. She passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. Sally was the second of four children and was preceded in death by her brothers Wade (Bernice) and Dale (Donna Rae) Nelson. She is survived by her sister, Maxine (Jack) Green. Sally graduated from Union High School in 1950, where she participated in 4-H and other activities. In 1952, she met Wayne Swett, and they were married on July 10, 1953. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Wayne and Sally were blessed with five children: Suzanne (Lewis) Caldwell, David, Chris Witte, Craig (Kristi), and Paul (Allyson). She loved spending time with her thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. After marrying, Sally spent most of her life in Vernal, also living in Price and later in Salt Lake City. Her favorite place was the Ashley area, where she and her family built two homes. Sally worked as a bookkeeper and salesclerk for several businesses, especially enjoying her time at Christensens in Vernal and H & J in Price. Together with Wayne, they started their own company providing telecommunications equipment and services. At various times, she also worked with her children in the business. Later, she enjoyed working with the public when she ran her own clothing and shoe store. Sally was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held several callings in the Young Women, Relief Society, and Primary organizations. Later in life, she found joy in serving in the Vernal Temple. She had a passion for square dancing and, alongside Wayne, taught it to others for many years. Sally also loved traveling, camping, and skiing. The family took yearly vacations throughout the U.S. and Canada, and later in life, she and Wayne traveled internationally, visiting nine countries. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, and making Easter hats. She enjoyed being self-sufficient and often modeled frontier living. Sally loved to spend time with family. A favorite activity was watching Sunday night movies with her family, enjoying popcorn and hot chocolate. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 15th, 2025, at 11 am at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary, with a viewing held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Rock Point Cemetery.
