ALLAN BARTELS Obituary

SYCAMORE – Allan R. Bartels, 74, of Sycamore, Ill., passed away Oct. 20, 2012, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
Born Aug. 13, 1938, in Sumner, Iowa, to John and Esther (Minkel) Bartels, Allan was employed in the telephone industry until his retirement in 1995. At this time, he moved to Arkansas where he enjoyed fishing and shooting with his family and friends. He moved back to Sycamore in 2004.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963 doing a tour in the Canal Zone. Allan belonged to the Lions Clubs in Iowa and Sycamore. He also was active in the Twin Lakes Gun Club and The Farm Shooting Range when he lived in Arkansas. He was a woodworker and enjoyed making things for his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four children, Ami (Jerry) Busse, Amber (Jeff) Pedersen, Aaron (Stephanie) Bartels and Trisha (Victor) Holbrook; 13 grandchildren, Kenny, Trent, Logan, Hunter, Samantha, Riley, McKenzie, Grant, Beau, Brady, Campbell, Peyton and Flynn; sister, Vicki (Tom) Schultz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chuck; and daughter, Carolyn Oltman.
Cremation will take place at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services. Per Al's request there will be no visitation. A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or TAILS Humane Society, in care of Olson Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.

Al was a wonderful gentleman. He was very caring and special to me and my family. He will be missed for the love he displayed to everone. Al loved his family so very much and he will be missed. Sorry for the loss of a true gentleman.
