Michael Wayne Cox

MICHAEL WAYNE COX, age 55, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Born and raised in Grundy, VA, Mike was a noted athlete and wrestler for the Grundy Wrestling Club. He continued his wrestling career at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. Throughout his professional life, he served in law enforcement, holding positions with the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department, Radford City Police Department, and Christiansburg Police Department. He later returned to his hometown, where he served as Chief of Police for the Town of Grundy Police Department for many years before relocating to Roanoke.
Mike was a valued team member at Mast General Store in downtown Roanoke, where his coworkers and countless visitors respected and admired him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Susie Cox. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Krista Deel Cox; daughter Claudia Cox and her loving partner, Rodolfo Ramirez Colina; and son Guinness Cox. He also leaves behind his father, Danny Cox of Grundy; sisters Allyson Guilliams (Daniel Guilliams) and Talena Williams (Adam Williams); nephews Hayden Guilliams, Reece Guilliams, and Tyson Williams; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mike also leaves behind countless friends who think of his friendship among their most treasured experiences. He was fiercely loyal, deeply engaged, and never afraid to speak his mind. His presence and impact can't be replicated or replaced on this earth. He was not a conciliator, nor was he complacent. He was opinionated, vocal, passionate, and a proud activist. If you agreed with him, you adored him. If you didn't, you weren't likely to come away from an interaction unscathed. His presence was unforgettable, his impact irreplaceable. Just a few of many reasons he was loved by so many. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
