Mary Winchester Obituary
Mary Winchester passed away January 10, 2021 at the age of 82. She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, but was raised in Avenal, California. A proud graduate of Avenal High School, she met her future husband, Bill, through a classmate. They married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1962 and began building their family. Mary and Bill followed his work assignments with PG&E to the East Bay Area and back to the Central Valley before ultimately landing in Visalia in 1986, where they lived happily for the next 30+ years. Mary spent many years as a member of the food service staff at Washington Intermediate School in Dinuba and later at Kaweah Delta District Hospital, but was happiest when she was supporting her family. She was devoted to her mother, took loving care of her boys, enjoyed a close relationship with her, and Bill's, extended family, with whom they often traveled, and, eventually became a fixture at the various events and activities relating to her grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bill, parents Luther and Georgia Hallam, and brother Glen Hallam.
She is survived by her three sons, Randy of Fresno, Billy (Keli) of Hanford, and John of Visalia; seven grandchildren, Beau (Lerin), Cody (Korbyn), Addi (Tyler), Sammi (Thomas), Richard (Maile), Russell (Ofelia), and Jason (Angelique); and seven great-grandchildren. Mary also leaves behind her sister, Pat White (Larry), and sister-in-law, Gerda Hallam, along with numerous, cherished nieces and nephews.

Hello my friend in heaven. Sure do wish they had phones up there. I can still hear your comforting word. Oh how they kept me going. I've yet to meet anyone close to the kind friend you were.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. Patty just to let you know your friends and classmates are with you and your family as you go through your loss. I know how close you and Mary were and always will be. The loss of a brother or sister is a big loss. Will be waiting for service information. Love you Patty and may our wonderful God be with you and Mary's family's. Will miss Mary every ORD here in Avenal.

Mary was a kind, caring and loving person. Someone very special will not be forgotten, memories of her will live on forever in our hearts. To me Mary was like a sister, friend and teacher when I first arrived in America. We spend many hours at the Avenal park with our toddlers Billy and Brenda. Grandma was always ready to spoil the kids, and provided the opportunity for us to enjoy evening with Mary and Bill's friends playing cards, laughing and having a good time.
Our life's journey often got interrupted as a result of Military service in Europa and different US States.
Time did not stay still; we sadly had to part from family members, but happily welcomed new ones.
Not very long ago we talked on the phone about our aches and pains that come with age, but we both acknowledged how blessed we are to reach a "mature age" , and see our kids and grand-kids all grown up
Mary will be missed, but never forgotten. God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I will miss her terribly. She was a God fearing forever kind of friend with the kindest soul I've ever known.
She will be a part of my fondest memories forever.
