Nancy Swanson Obituary

Nancy Ann Swanson Nancy Ann Swanson, a lifelong resident of Visalia, CA, passed away with her family at her side, on October 31, 2011. She was one day shy of her 81st birthday. Nancy was born in San Francisco, CA on November 1, 1930 to Marc (Jack) and Lois Iseman. She was raised in Visalia where her father worked in the family business, G&I, and later built Isemans in Hanford, CA. She graduated from Visalia Union High School in 1948 and Stanford University in 1952. Nancy taught kindergarten at Veva Blunt from 1952 to 1954 and then took a break to start her family. She married the love of her life, Leo (Bud) Swanson on June 14, 1953, and they had three children. She returned to teaching in 1968, teaching kindergarten at Fairview School for 23 years with her good friend, Mary Green. Nancy and Bud had the opportunity to travel to many places during their marriage, but their favorite place to go since the early 1970's has been to their home in Cayucos, where they enjoyed working in their yard and reading, two of Nancy's favorite pastimes. She was a member of the Floral Artist Guild, AAUW, and was a member of several bridge groups. In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is survived by her children, Michael Swanson and his wife Judi of Encinitas, Shelley Dever and her husband David of Visalia, and Stacy Schofro and her husband Steve of Costa Mesa. Also her five grandchildren: Ryan and Heather Swanson, Leah Dever Rutledge and her husband Justin, Danielle Dever, Bradley Schofro and a great-grand daughter on the way, Madison Marie Rutledge. Nancy is also survived by her brother Herb Iseman and his wife Cathy, brother Bob Iseman and his wife Ruth, and her sister Patricia Landgraf and her husband Ray, along with many nieces and nephews. She was much loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Nancy was laid to rest at a private service at the Visalia Cementary on November 8th, 2011.

As a life-long friend of the Swansons, was very saddened to hear of Nancy's passing. Growing up, I was at their house so much, she probably thought she had 4 kids (though my Mom could say the same about Mike). To Bud, Mike, Shelley, Stacy & the extended Swanson-Iseman families; our heartfelt sympathies.

Patty, It has been a long time, but do remember your sister as my kindigarden teacher @ Veva Blunt.

If you receive this note, all my best thoughts... Allen...

I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family. Mrs. Swanson was my kindergarten teacher at Fairview. I may have been young, but I will never forget her love for us children. Thank you for being a great teacher. By the way, I became a teacher too, thanks for paving the way.
