Hazel Linton Lewis

Strafford, VT - On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Hazel Linton Lewis, 102 one of Strafford's most beloved citizens passed away at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

Hazel was born in Corinth, VT on February 20, 1922 the daughter of George and Beatrice (Miles) Linton. She attended the Corinth Schools and later graduated from Thetford Academy in 1941. She also attended the Lyndon Teachers College, where she received a teacher's certificate. She taught school in the Strafford Upper Village and was also a kindergarten aid.

On October 25, 1942 she married Delwin L. Lewis in Thetford, VT. They lived all their married life in Strafford, VT where they raised their two sons and celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Her love for her grandsons and grandchildren was endless and she was especially endeared to all children of all ages.

She was often referred to as a "people person" as she enjoyed the friendship of everyone. Her and Delwin's home was always open to everyone and many many family gatherings as well as community ones were often held there.

She was a member of the United Church of Strafford, Strafford Historical Society, P.T.A., Neighbors Helping Neighbors, United Church Women, Strafford Seniors and for many years a member of the Strafford Firemen's Auxiliary, and helped for many years on the Fireman's Annual Barbeque and the Strafford Rummage Sale. She was very interested in the school programs and attended many, as well as basketball and other sporting events. She and Delwin enjoyed their two trips across the country, as well as traveling the New England States and to other areas.

She is survived by her son Gregory Delwin Lewis, (Brenda) of Strafford, her five grandsons Brett Lewis, (Penny) of Royalton, VT, Sean Lewis (Laura) of Strafford, VT, Joel Lewis (Christy) of Lemptster, NH and Todd (Beth) and Neal Lewis (Jennifer) both of New York; eleven great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Delwin on August 30, 2001, a son George Wesley Lewis in 2008, three sisters, her twin Helen McLam, Margaret "Margie" Varney, and Lucille (Ceily) Aja, and her brothers Fenton Linton and Frank Linton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Hazel's memory to the Strafford Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 208, So. Strafford, VT 05070 or to the Strafford Senior Center, P.O. 224 South Strafford, VT 05070.

Public calling hours will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 1 to 3pm at the Boardway and Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RTE 110, Chelsea, VT. A memorial service is being planned for Saturday, May 17th, 2025 at Barrett Hall, South Strafford, Vermont 1-3pm.
