Helen Richardson Obituary

Helen Richardson

Windsor, VT - Helen Elder Morey Richardson, a long-time resident of Sharon VT, passed away on April 2, 2025 at Mount Ascutney Hospital & Health Center. She was born in Lyme Center, NH on April 29, 1934, the eldest child of Kenneth Elder and Mildred (Underhill) Elder. She attended the One Room school house in Lyme and graduated from Orford High School in 1952. She married Richard Morey in June 1952. She married Clayton Richardson in 2001.

Helen was a homemaker when her children were young after which she was employed by the Sunset Motel in West Lebanon, Purity Supreme Supermarket in West Lebanon, and the VA Medical Center in White River Junction where she retired in 1995 after 20 years of dedicated service.

Helen was an avid and extremely talented knitter and crochetier. There was nothing she couldn't figure out or do. She created customized knitted Christmas stockings for each, and every member of her family, as well as making them for numerous friends and acquaintances. She could literally make one almost overnight. Helen also loved to bake and made many cakes for various occasions over the years. Helen enjoyed traveling and was always up for a challenging game of Scrabble with her children.

Helen loved to play Bingo and enjoyed her annual weekend trip to Foxwoods with her daughters. Family was everything to Helen. The Annual Christmas gathering, in recognition and celebration of Helen, became a well-attended tradition where as many as 50 immediate family members gathered to share in the joy of the season. This event was looked forward to with anticipation and the knowledge that the best gift you could give is the gift of yourself and your time.

She is survived by three daughters, Gladys Berry (John) of Cornish Flat; Priscilla Wheeler (Robert) of Plainfield; and Deborah Miller of Canaan; four sons, Fred Morey (Skippy) of Windsor; Michael Morey (Jessica) of Ocala, Jerry Morey (Roxann) of Lebanon and Paul Morey Sr. (Marilyn) of Lebanon. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren Steve Martin (Lynn); Chris Martin; Paul Morey, Jr; Scott Morey (Aqui); Jamie Coutermarsh (Mike); Amy Davis (Mike); Ricky Morey; Freddie Morey II, Frank Morey (Tanya); Crystal Morey; Michelle Hammond (Justin), Bill Miller (Angela) and Phil Miller, 19 greatgrandchildren, and one great-great grandson (Jackson) born on Christmas Day 2024; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by two brothers Don Elder (Julia) of Lyme Center, Phil Elder of Lyme Center, a half-brother Wilbur Clark (Joan) of Lyme Center and two half- sisters Nancy Jackson (Leon), of Sanford NC, and Vera Carter (Carl) of Lyme Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Morey, her second husband Clayton Richardson and a half-sister, Alice Small.

At her request, no services are planned. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 12N – 3PM (service at 1PM) at the Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department, 1200 Route 12A, Plainfield NH.

Burial will be private at the request of the family.

A special note of thanks to the staff at Mount Ascutney Hospital & Health Center, for their kindness and compassion, and for going above and beyond, on what would be our Mom's last day.

Dear Gladys & family -
I was so sorry to hear of your Mom´s passing. She was a wonderful, kind and talented lady, and will be missed by all who knew her. I used to look forward to seeing her every year at the Lyme Center Ladies Aid Annual Holiday Bazaar, until COVID happened, and since then I haven´t been able to get out much, due to health problems.
May you memories of her comfort you at this sad time.
