Leonard Miraldi Obituary

Leonard "Len" W. Miraldi

Norwich, VT - Leonard "Len" W. Miraldi, 65, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, July 11th, 2024, in Isle La Motte, VT.

He was born in Queens, NY on August 24, 1958, a son of the late William "Vic" and Dora (Duce) Miraldi. Len grew up and attended school in Woodhaven, NY before graduating from Christ the King High School in Middle Village, NY in 1976. He completed a 4-year carpentry apprenticeship in NYC, before moving to the Upper Valley where he worked for Domus and Pete Hall Construction firms. Later, he changed careers after attending UNH Thompson School, graduating with a degree in Forestry. Len went on to work for Harwood Forestry for 20 years before taking ownership of the company and renaming it Tamarack Forestry Services. He retired in 2020.

In 1980, Len married his high school sweetheart, Laura Fisher in Queens, NY before moving to New England in 1985 to nurture a lifestyle for his family near the mountains he loved. They lived in Cornish and Orford, NH for a time, eventually settling in Norwich, VT where he lived for 32 years before he and Laura moved to Isle La Motte in 2021.

Len's career in forestry allowed him to spend ample time in the woods, a place he very much loved. He touched the lives of so many members of his community through his work. His preservation of the Vermont forest and promotion of wildlife will live on for decades to come. In his free time and in retirement, he enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be hiking, boating, doing odd jobs with his tractor, or just being in the woods. He found joy in home renovation projects and woodworking – those projects an enduring display of his mastery, artistry, and creativity.

Perhaps his greatest display of dedication, love, and selflessness was towards his family, his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He spent his early days as a father watching Drew and Jake play sports, and more recently he was his grandchildren's greatest cheerleader and wrestling partner. Selflessness and service to others and his community were Len's superpowers; traits that were comforting and evident to all throughout his life. Len was unconditionally compassionate, caring, and kind – the first to encourage, support, and mentor those he loved.

He is survived by his wife Laura of Isle La Motte, VT; he has two sons - Jacob "Jake" and his wife, Story, of Tacoma, WA; and Andrew "Drew" and his wife, Ashley, of White River Jct., VT, four grandchildren Alexander, Julia, Quinn and Isla and his brother Michael of Long Beach, NY.

Calling hours will be held on Friday July 19th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Aquinas House at Dartmouth in Hanover on Saturday, July 20th at 11 AM.

Memorial donations can be made to the Vermont Woodlands Association. Messages for Len's family can be left at www.rand-wilson.com.

I am so sorry to hear of Len's passing, I truly enjoyed when Len would come and need copies of maps.
I became aware over many years of him coming for copies that he was a true "family man" as he would light up when talking about his sons.
He will be missed!

Laura, Jake, Drew, et al.,
Having know him as a parent at the Orford Child Center and later @ MCS, I have always had such respect for Len. Indeed, it is hard to articulate an adequate response to your loss. My heart is on the ground.

A true gentleman and good man. I am so glad to have worked with Lenny on many logging projects. He always was so respectful of the challenges in the woods and working together to navigate the project. Taken to soon. Rest in piece my friend. Best wishes to the family.

Oh Laura, I am so shocked and saddened at this horrible news. Thank you for asking Andy to let me know. I am so happy that Len visited me in the office just a few weeks ago and we had such a great chat about your home and the changes, the boat, and of course my work here, and I got hugs. He was one of he nicest men I have known and he was a joy to work with as well. My heart goes out to you and all of your family. I send you my deepest sympathy, peace and love. Linda
