Michael Long Obituary

Michael Long

West Lebanon, NH - Michael Long, 82, of West Lebanon, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at the Jack Byrne Center in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side.

Mike was born on March 16, 1944, in Brattleboro, Vermont, to John and Dorothy Long. He later moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, where he met the love of his life, Lynn Bergeron. The couple married and, in 1981, relocated to the Upper Valley, where they built a life together and most recently resided in West Lebanon.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Lynn Long; his children, Katrina (Steven) Bridgman, Kevin (Lisa) Long, and Valerie (Robert) Fink; his cherished grandchildren: Kaetlyn Bridgman, Keira Long, Zachary Bridgman, Lexi Fink, Brenton Long, and Josh Fink; and siblings Robert Long, Sherry Talbot, and Signa Danielson.

Mike was an avid golfer, a dedicated volunteer, and a passionate supporter of Boston sports teams. He even once ran for State Representative-yet nothing brought him greater pride or joy than his family. He will be remembered for the unwavering love, support, and guidance he gave so generously to those around him.

Mike was a consummate professional, distinguished by his extensive expertise and unwavering commitment to the healthcare industry. He held the prestigious designations of Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA)-credentials that reflected his deep knowledge and dedication to his craft.

Over a career spanning several decades, Mike became a recognized and highly respected leader. His leadership was most evident in his roles as Chief Financial Officer or Controller for multiple organizations, where his strategic vision and financial stewardship helped navigate the complexities of modern healthcare. Beyond executive roles, Mike was a sought-after expert in healthcare consulting, eventually serving as a Partner for two prominent audit and accounting firms. In these capacities, he mentored countless colleagues and provided invaluable guidance to healthcare institutions across New England.

Mike's influence extended into professional advocacy through his significant service with the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and board leadership with several local nonprofit health care organizations. Serving in a leadership capacity, he was instrumental in advancing the profession and industry and supporting the next generation of healthcare financial leaders. He will be remembered not only for his technical brilliance and professional achievements but for the integrity, mentorship, wit, and kindness he brought to every boardroom and consultation.

The Long family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff and caregivers at Dartmouth Cancer Center, Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, and the Jack Byrne Center for the compassion, kindness, and exceptional care they provided to Mike.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the John P. Larkin Country Club, in recognition of Mike's love of golf, where he served on the Board and formed many friendships. Donations can be sent in Mike's honor to: John P. Larkin Country Club, PO Box 263, Windsor, VT 05089, Attn: Bob Hingston.

Services will be held at the Ricker Funeral Home at 56 School Street, Lebanon N.H. 03766 on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 2:00 pm, followed by a reception to celebrate Mike's life.
