Richard Mackay Obituary

Richard T. Mackay

Windsor, VT - Richard T. Mackay, 82, died Wednesday September 17, 2025, at home in Windsor.

He was born a son of Norman and Rita (Hannon) Mackay on December 7, 1942, in Boston, MA. Richard grew up in Windsor where he played baseball, basketball, and football at Windsor High School and was a diver on the Windsor swim team. Shortly after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard where he earned the National Defense Medal before entering the reserves. Following his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard, he attended the New Hampshire Vocational Institute in Manchester where he learned to be an electrician. He was married to Betty Mae Dunn on June 28, 1968, and they spent the rest of their lives in Windsor.

Richard worked at Cone Automatic and Goodyear in Windsor and later began his career at the Veteran Administration where he worked until his retirement.

He was quietly generous to many organizations and kept involved in his community as a life member of the Windsor American Legion, where he also tended bar, and as an active member of the Windsor Alumni Association. Richard enjoyed fishing, boating, shooting, and was an avid collector. He especially enjoyed annual family trips to camp on Lake Champlain and in recent years, he could often be found on this Spyder three wheeled motorcycle.

He is predeceased by his wife Betty and a daughter, Sandra Place.

Richard leaves his daughter Virginia Yepez of Fort Worth, TX, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren: brothers, Norman Mackay of Bellingham, WA, Bruce Mackay of Florida, and Malcolm Mackay of Windsor, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the St. Francis Cemetery in Windsor.
