Ronald Devoyd Obituary

Ronald B. Devoyd

Hartland, VT - Ronald B. Devoyd, 87, died on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT. Ron was born in Claremont, NH on September 9, 1938, to Howard and Effie (Sears) Devoyd. He was the youngest of the family's three sons and graduated from Stevens High School. While in high school he worked with a talented chef at a hotel where he learned the art of cooking well. Cooking and baking became a lifelong passion, and his popovers were always perfect. He continued his education at Franklin County Technical School and Northeastern University. While attending Northeastern, he met Hylene Hull on the Greyhound bus headed back to Boston, they both had been home visiting family, he in Claremont and she in Hartland. His beautiful and striking blue eyes drew her in immediately, they began a one-year courtship, and were married in Claremont on August 30, 1958.

Ron was an early pioneer in computer science and his career with Digital Equipment Corporation spanned more than 3 decades. They spent the majority of their time living in Massachusetts where the company was based, but also lived two years in Switzerland while he worked out of the office there. In 1978, his career brought them back to Vermont and they moved into their home in Hartland.

Ron was a snappy dresser and enjoyed picking out the perfect outfits for he and Hylene to wear. He was a talented woodworker and used his engineering skills to design and craft wooden animal flashlights and handmade clocks. An amateur photographer, he took great pride in creating a Hartland calendar that he sold locally. These were photographed, printed, and hand assembled by him for 26 years.

He and Hylene enjoyed their time together, traveling for his work and going on cruises.

He is survived by his wife Hylene of Hartland; longtime friends Ken and Peg Moore of Claremont; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Howard and Gene Devoyd.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held on his and Hylene's next anniversary, where they held their wedding reception, at Damon Hall in Hartland on August 30, 2026, from 1 until 3 pm. The style will be potluck so please bring a dish to share.

Knight Funeral Home of Windsor, VT has been entrusted with arrangements and online condolences are invited in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
