During the early years of her children's education in Pittsfield, Ruth volunteered for many organizations including serving as a Cub Scout leader, a Brownie leader and a member of the PTA. As her children grew, Ruth went back to work, first as a sales representative for England Brothers, and later as a social worker for the Welfare Department. She retired from her final job as a Child Protective Social Worker in 1975. After retirement, Ruth enjoyed working in her garden, taking exercise classes, kayaking, camping, walking her dogs, and traveling. She traveled to 16 countries abroad , and to Hawaii and Alaska. She also traveled in her motorhome to every state in the lower 48 with the exception of Oregon. In 1999, she moved to Canaan, New Hampshire where she was a member of the Bird and Garden Club. Dear Sandy, Nancy, Steven, Chris and extended family, My Sympathies for your loss of an accomplished woman that was also your Mom. We don't become grown adults until we've lost our Moms; I myself have been traveling down that path for the last year. Just remember everything your Mom taught you; she will always be your guiding light.
