Robert Hollis Abendroth

Robert Abendroth ("Robin") of Scarborough Maine, son of Marion Hollis Abendroth and Robert Willets Abendroth of Towson, Maryland, died on February 12, 2026 at the age of 78. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 37 years, Melanie Dawn McCutcheon Abendroth. He is survived by his children, Ethan and Betsy; his grandchildren Ryan and Harrison; his brothers William ("Skip") and Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews. His son Gabriel and his brothers Edward ("Happy") and Allen predeceased him.

After receiving his bachelor's degree from Towson University in Maryland, he began a career as an educator, working in a variety of settings and places including teaching at Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, New Harnpshire and Landmark School in Beverly, Massachusetts, serving on the School Committee of the Town of lpswich, Massachusetts, and teaching remedial reading and writing at Salem State College in Salem, Massachusetts. At the age of 54, he earned a master's degree at Southem Maine University, with honors, and began his second career as a licensed clinical social worker. Counseling was Robin's professional passion, and he continued his counseling career until shortly before his death.

Robin was known for his endless optimism, even at the end, and his easy ability to connect with anyone. As a teenager, Robin was the lead guitarist of The Nunsuch, a top forty band that was popular in Baltimore in the late 1960s. He was a deep-thinking intellectual, an avid conversationalist and a "political junky". He loved living in his adopted home state of Maine and enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family at Camp Ticawa, the Abendroth family's camp, on the shore of Long Lake in Harrison, Maine. He will be missed.

Expressions of sympathy in Robin's memory may be made to a charity of your choosing.
