Sharon Farrenkopf Obituary

Sharon "Missy" Farrenkopf

Springfield, NH - Sharon "Missy" Farley Farrenkopf, 77, passed away peacefully at home in Springfield, NH, on July 29, 2025.

Born on March 6, 1948, in Washington, DC, to John Joseph Farley and Jeanne Marie Plaine.

She graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, beginning a lifelong career of caring for others.

That same year, she married the love of her life, Robert Farrenkopf, whom she had met on a blind date at the Tanker's Picnic for Virginia Military Institute. As the wife of an Army officer, Sharon embraced a life of adventure and service, living around the world in Australia, Germany, and throughout the United States, including a memorable chapter at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Wherever she went, Sharon found ways to continue her calling in nursing, including serving as Dean of the Medical Careers Institute Nursing School in Virginia.

But Sharon's proudest role was that of a mother and grandmother. Over their 55 years of marriage, she and Bob raised two daughters and were blessed with five grandchildren. Sharon was a constant presence in their lives - attending school events, cheering them on at activities, and sharing her passions for baking, antiquing, and exploring new places. Her grandchildren will always remember her as their biggest supporter, their loving confidante, and the heart of the family.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph and Jeanne Marie Farley of Sunapee, NH, and her beloved granddaughter, Ellise Graves of Wisconsin. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bob; her daughters, Laura (Mick) Cullen and Cindi (Eric) Graves; her grandchildren, Mia Cullen, Owen Cullen, Madie Graves, and Becca Graves; and her siblings, John Farley, Lynne Wiggins, Bill Farley, and Kevin Farley.

Sharon's love for family, especially her grandchildren, will remain her enduring legacy.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joachim Mission Church in Sunapee, NH with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Newport, NH to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Sharon's memory be made to support the vital care provided by Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice: PO Box 2209, New London, NH 03257 or online at lakesunapeevna.org/donate-now.

To the entire family of Sharon, you have my deepest condolences. Having worked with Sharon for many years, there was never a more professional, genuine, and compassionate Nursing educator. Also, she was just a wonderful person that anyone would gravitate toward. She will be missed. We were all blessed to have known her. You all are in my prayers.
