Born at home in July of 1937, Talbert was the child of Mina (Hill) and George Bacon of Lyme NH, the 5th of 6 children. Talbert attended Lyme School and graduated from Thetford Academy in 1955. His senior year at Thetford, he was selected to participate in the "All State" chorus in Burlington, VT. He said that was one of the highlights of his life. He attended Lyndon Teachers College for a short period of time.
Always a hard worker, he worked for many local farms haying and plowing snow. He also worked for a heel factory in Wilder, VT and for numerous construction companies, including Trumbull Nelson. In addition, he worked for Wings Store in East Thetford, VT. In 1961, he began working at Dartmouth Bookstore, where he spent several of the next 26 years as Textbook Manager.
In his later years, Talbert worked for the Mascoma Senior Center and the Upper Valley Senior Center for 17 years as a bus driver. This proved to be his favorite job! He enjoyed driving the bus and interacting with the riders and making friends with many people.
Talbert was a 3rd degree Mason and enjoyed sharing his Masonic journey with brother Stuart, Rod McClay (brother-in-law), and his nephews "Roddy Joe" McClay and Stuart "Tiger" Bacon. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1960 to 1966, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Talbert enjoyed horseshoes with Alfred, Volleyball, and basketball. For several years, he was a Cub Scout leader in Lyme. He also served on the Lyme School Board and as a Selectman.
In 1960, he married Priscilla LaMott. Together, they raised two daughters, Vicki Bacon-Thomas of Wilmington, MA/Williamsburg, VA (husband Dan Thomas) and Laurie Tostenson (husband John Tostenson) of Canaan, NH. He thoroughly enjoyed his three grandsons William Smith, Garrett Husband and Justin Husband and four great-grandchildren Finnegan, Gideon, Dean, and Catalina. He loved being called "Pops" by Bill and "Papa Dad" by the rest of the gang. Although their marriage did not survive, he and Priscilla remained close friends, talking on the phone often, sharing birthdays and holidays and many other family gatherings.
Talbert enjoyed the family trips taken when his daughters were growing up. Favorite trips were to Nova Scotia, PEI, Niagara Falls, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. There were many weekend camping trips to local campgrounds that brought him joy as well. When his children were growing up, Talbert had many friends but one special friend, Wayne Bates, was his friend from the sandbox to the end of life.
