Timothy Wolfe Obituary
Timothy Wolfe, MD
Washington, NH - Husband. Brother. Physician.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Timothy Wolfe, MD at his home, on October 20, 2025. Tim was the beloved husband of Stephanie Wolfe (nee Carrico), respected physician, friend, and community member, who valiantly fought the devastating effects of degenerative brain disease for ten years.
Dr. Wolfe was born in St. Louis, MO to W. Brewster Wolfe, MD (1925-1991) and Margaret (Peggy) Conway Wolfe (1924 -2013), the second of eleven children and grew up in New York's Hudson Valley.
Dr. Wolfe attended high school at St. Patrick's Academy (Newburgh, NY) before moving on to St. Michael's College (Toronto), a fellowship at Mass General (Boston), medical school (Albany, 1973-76), U.S. Public Health Service residencies (Staten Island and San Francisco), He worked as a traveling physician (locus tenens) throughout 17 states and in 1984, began his Internal Medicine practice at Newport Hospital. Dr. Wolfe later transitioned to group practice at Newport Health Center, becoming a familiar presence in the local community for thirty years. Throughout his career, Dr. Wolfe chaired the Medical Board, championing local physicians and solutions to the challenges of rural healthcare. He was also the director of Sullivan County's Neurodiverse Agency fueled by an interest in developmental disabilities and strong belief that all patients taught him how to be a better doctor. Volunteer work in developing countries including Belize, Honduras and Nepal provided much needed health care education and service.
Frequently noted by those who knew him well, Dr. Wolfe's curiosity, tenacity and determination were a driving force in all that he accomplished in life.
Tim met his future wife, dedicated partner and the love of his life – Stephanie Carrico, in PA, whom he married October 3,1987. Tim and Stephanie's home in Washington, NH, lovingly known as Wolfe Hollow, would become home base for many family celebrations over the years, always with great food, hearty laughter, rousing music, trail runs and new-found reads.
The New York Yankees held a special place in Tim's heart. A lifetime dream was realized when he attended Yankee Fantasy baseball camp meeting childhood heroes Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford. Visitors would often find Tim totally riveted to the radio or TV, cheering (or cursing) his beloved Yankees.
Although Tim spent much of his time working, he had a long and varied list of interests including trail running, travel, tai chi, boxing, reading (science fiction), poker, bridge and music.
He particularly loved running in Pillsbury State Park with one of his many dogs (Joy, Nora, Jake and Gracie) as well as human companions who valiantly tried to meet his steady pace while steering clear of wildlife, roots, rocks and other forest hazards. Following high-octane activities, Tim relished Stephanie's legendary culinary skills, splendid wines, a comforting fire, great books, moon rises, engaging conversation; laughter and love as an all-in-one package.
Tim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Stephanie and nine siblings: Christopher (Anne), Sharron (Paul), Andria, Elisabeth (Michael), Gregory (Barbara), Victoria (Selim), Brian (Lesle), Penelope, and Pamela; along with 25 nieces and nephews. Tim was pre-deceased by parents Brewster and Peggy; brother Lance; nephews Liam, Brendan, and niece Shayna.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Camp Morgan in Washington on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 2 - 4 PM. Address: 337 Millen Pond Rd, Washington, NH 03280.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Newport Recreation Department, 17 Meadow Rd., Newport, NH 03773 in Dr. Timothy Wolfe's name (603.863.1332).
