Margaret Spencer Obituary

Spencer (Bercin), Margaret "Peggy" Spencer (Bercin), Margaret "Peggy", Born: August 4, 1925 Died: August 9, 2018 Sadly, the last surviving Bercin family member has passed. Margaret Theresa (Bercin) Spencer passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the age of 93. Peggy was born on August 4, 1925 to Louis and Marguerite Bercin in Mt. Clemens, MI. She lived most of her life in Armada, MI. Peggy graduated from Armada High School in 1943 and earned the honor of class valedictorian. Peggy enjoyed her freshman year at Michigan State University before marrying Edward Donovan Spencer on August 18, 1945. They resided at the Spencer Farm their entire 54 years of married life. Ed and Peggy raised five children on the farm before Ed sadly passed away on January 30, 1999. Four years later, Peggy reconnected with another Armadian, Robert Hollweg. Bob and Peggy enjoyed a long and loving 15 year relationship in Michigan and Texas. Peggy never shied away from a scrabble game, but her foot never stepped into any type of barn at the farm. Her gardens were renown and often prize winners at the Armada Fair. Peggy would bake seven loaves of bread a week without measuring one ingredient. She was a very active community supporter of the Democratic Party and the Methodist Church. Peggy also was an avid bridge player and entertained with style in her home. During summer months, many nieces and nephews would experience the farm life by tasting warm milk and assisting in farm chores. She cherished her eight grandchildren (Kevin Spencer (Michele), Laura (Spencer) Dula(Shane), Jared (Colleen), Broghan (Jessica) Carnes, Matthew (Meg) Spencer, Alyssa (Spencer) Lamberson (Jon), Michael (Janice) and Scott Spencer. Her 14 great grandchildren were the sparkle of her eye. Peggy is survived by her special partner Bob, her five children: Ann (John) Hollaway, Georgetown, TX, Dr. Larry (Lynn) Spencer, Cochran, PA, Dr. Jean Spencer-Carnes, St. Petersburg, FL, David (Les) Spencer, Armada, MI, and Steven (Julie) Spencer, Armada, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Edward, her three sisters, two brothers, her parents and all her Spencer in-laws. A heartfelt thank-you to Ann Hollaway and the many care givers who cared for Peggy and Bob in Texas. Peggy is a woman to be mourned, but lived a life to be celebrated. We shall honor her life with a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 1st at 11:00 a.m. in the Armada Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to United Methodist Women, 23200 East Main Street, Armada, Michigan 48005. Godspeed.
