Arthur Collie Obituary

Arthur "LeRoy" Collie died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 in Barstow. He was 68 years old. Born June 30, 1933 in Wilmington, Collie lived in Hinkley for 21 years. Before that, he lived in Carson for 28 years. He attended Banning High School in Wilmington. He spent 35 years as an electrical engineer at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. He loved to play the guitar and sing country music. He also loved to hit the sand on his dune buggy. Collie served with the United States Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He received the Korean Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Citation, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal while in service. Collie was a 10-year member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also the AmVets, both in Lenwood. At the AmVets he served as bar manager and finance manager. Collie is survived by his wife of 48 years Virginia Collie of Hinkley; his son and daughter-in-law James LeRoy and Leticia Collie of San Diego; his son and daughter-in-law Michael Allen and Kathy Collie of Tehachapi; his daughter and son-in-law Carmel Lee and Louie Carlos of Hanford; his daughter Marcella Ann Collie and Misty of Phoenix; Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his mother Carmel Collie of Anaheim; his brothers Kenneth Collie of Laguna Hills and Daryl Collie of Garden Grove; his sister Joyce Rilea of Santa Ana; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002 at Mead Mortuary Chapel, 36930 Irwin Road. Burial will be private.
