Craig Campbell Obituary

Craig Pollard Campbell died at home on June 22, 2010.
Craig was born April 7, 1953 and grew up on the Kemper Campbell Ranch. While growing up in Victorville, Craig was involved in everything at school from student government to sports to selling carrots at the football games. After test driving a couple of colleges including Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland, Craig ended up at UC Berkeley where he made many life-long friends, all of whom are left with stories of Craig's endless Berkeley adventures.
After graduating from Berkeley in 1975 Craig worked for a few years in the Bay Area until landing his dream job at Stone & Adler Advertising in Chicago. Craig met Laura in Chicago and the two were married in 1985. Craig and Laura returned to the ranch to raise their family in 1986.
After returning to the High Desert, Craig commuted to jobs in Los Angeles for years. In 1998 Craig reconnected with an old friend, Rick Piercy, and was soon employed as Vice President and Director of Operations at the Lewis Center for Educational Research. Craig loved working at the Lewis Center and took huge pride in its growth and development.
We will all remember Craig for his stories. Craig was blessed with an encyclopedic memory (which he used to his great advantage winning three days in a row on Jeopardy), a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to use both in conversation. From his earliest days to his last, it was always easy and fun to be with Craig and talk about everything from the foibles of youth to current events and everything in between. All of David and Stephen's friends came to Craig for advice and counsel for subjects ranging from youthful crises to the selection of colleges. Craig made friends easily and remembered everyone he ever met.
Craig is survived by his two sons, David and Stephen; his wife Laura; his aunt Jean DeBlasis; his uncle Owen Pollard; his cousin Christy; his brothers Kemper and Scott; sisters-in-law Jennifer, Nicki and Diana; brothers-in-law Randy, Tom and Michael; nieces Vicki, Alison, Hilary and Erin and nephews Sean, Michael Jr., John, Zach, Brian, Jeff and Ryan.
A service celebrating Craig's life will be held Friday, June 25 at 4 p.m. at the Main House on the Kemper Campbell Ranch.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lewis Center for Educational Research or the UCLA Department of Rheumatology.

Not sure what to say?

UCLA STAFF

August 18, 2010

Laura, all of us @ UCLA dialysis offer our belated condolences; unfortunately we just heard about Craig's passing from Dr. Saleh (he did notify people in the unit when he heard of the news but when he called only new staff members who didn't know your husband were working and they neglected to pass the message on to those of us who did). I can tell you that I personally viewed this great spirited man as a true friend. Everyone expressed deep shock and regret when we heard the news. No matter his condition he was always friendly and interested in our lives; and he was always good for a joke or a story. It was our pleasure to have known him. Even in the hard circumstances under which we encountered each other he touched our lives. Deep commiserations to you, Stephen and David. We'll miss him with you. Tom Morring from UCLA

So many wonderful memories. What a light he brought to this sometimes dreary world. I've never known anyone like him and I know I never will.

My condolences to Craig's family. I know that he will be greatly missed. I dated him briefly in High School and he was such a charming, witty, intelligent guy. I am sure he only grew better with age. When I think of him, it always brings a smile to my face. Thanks for the memories Craig.

I had the privelege to work with Craig at the Lewis Center. He was a phenomenol person to work for. Craig was intelligent, humorous, kind, and the most engaging story-teller I've ever met. But of all his wonderful qualities the one that stood out the most to me was how much he loved his wife and children. Craig is now in the glorious and loving presense of our heavenly father where he awaits a reunion with his beloved family.

I remember Mr. Campbell from the lewis Center. he was a good man and he made time to talk to you. I was employed there for a short period many years ago and I enjoyed conversing with Mr. Campbell. He was the Vice President of the school but he had an open door policy and I shared some interesting conversations with him and he invited me out to his ranch though I was unable to visit it. May Mr. Campbell rest in peace.
