FREDRICK OPIE Obituary

FREDRICK WINFIELD OPIE Of Victorville, California, at the age 87, passed away December 28, 2010 at 5:56pm. Win, as he liked to be called, was born in Binghamton, New York as Fredrick Winfield Opie, on February 16, 1924. Win was predeceased by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Opie, his brothers William and Walter and his sister Alice. He is survived by nieces Tina Opie, Debby Tiffany and nephews Steven Opie, David Opie, James Opie, Robert Tiffany, Scott Tiffany and many great nieces, nephews, his close friends Linda Swan, Cecelia Nagel and a host of other loving friends. Win was a writer and director and his many credits include working as director on the Steve Allen Show. He wrote many screen plays and many songs. He loved to entertain with his skills on the piano and had his own company Nostalgia Inc. He had the ability to remember and play popular music. Win loved sports, and as a young man he played baseball for the Norwich Blue Jays and football at the semi pro level. Later, he found golf, which was his passion until age and infirmity forced him to give it up. He sculpted and his pride and joy of this endeavor was a bust of JFK. He tried gold mining. He loved cats. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. Reading was another of his interests and he found great delight in the written word and those who could command it. He was tyrant in a pussycat disguised if you unmasked him. Overall he will truly be missed. Services were scheduled for Friday, January 21, 2011 @ 2:00pm at Hall Memorial Chapel. Professional services entrusted to Hall Memorial Chapel.
