Gary Lee Yates
November 18, 1936 - January 29, 2018

Gary Lee Yates, 82, peacefully passed away on a beautiful sunny day in Apple Valley, California. He was born in Spencer, Iowa, the first child of Marvin and Mary Yates. Gary was preceded in death by his father and mother; his first wife, Carol Ann Yates; brothers, Jim Yates; and daughter, Sherry, Laurie; He is survived by his second wife of 18 years Marge Yates of Apple Valley; brother, Tom Yates of Arroyo Grande; children, Michael Yates of Riverside, Sandy Yates of Alta Loma, and three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and also many loving extended family. He was a long time resident of Apple Valley. Gary enjoyed a distinguished career as an aircraft and aerospace industry, which included launching innovative aircraft in his early career, working on all of the space shuttles an other projects for NASA; and, retired from Rockwell/Boeing in 1994. His nickname was "The Tinkerman" because he would tinker with everything. Gary was a man that could build anything. He was an avid outdoorsman, skilled carpenter, welder and loved his Blackpowder rifle shooting and his 1840's Rendezvous. He also enjoyed barbecues and cooking for everyone, for all that had the pleasure of knowing Gary knew what it was to have a true friend. Gary was a tremendous man who truly lived his life, he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Please join us to celebrate the life of Gary with services being held on February 17, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Located at The Apple Valley Inn, 20601 Hwy 18, Apple Valley, CA 92307. Burial will be Private. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to our special angels at Charter Healthcare Group, for all their love and care for Gary.
