Gourney Turner Obituary

Gourney Harold Turner Sr. of Hesperia passed away Aug. 6, 2005, at St. MaryÕs Medical center in Apple Valley. He was 90 years young.Gourney was born on Nov. 24, 1914, in Urbana, Mo., to Lettie Jessie Turner. He married his sweetheart, Charlotte A. ÒSnootsyÓ Link, on Jan. 27, 1933, in Yuma, Ariz. They had a son, Gourney Jr., and a daughter, Diane. Gourney and Charlotte were married for 66 years until her death. He married his second wife, Viola Crider on Oct. 1, 2004.Gourney, who loved motorcycles, joined the LAPD in 1941 and joined the motorsquad. Besides his job as a motor officer, he started working for better benefits for the LAPD and LAFD. He spent many years helping to get the programs they have today. He also did the same for the police departments in Hawaii. Gourney was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, in 1999, and his son, Gourney H. Turner Jr., on June 30, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Viola; daughter, Dianne Jorgensen; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchilren. Although our life together was very brief, it was very full and happy. I have inherited his wonderful family, which along with my own, have helped me in this trying time. I love and miss you. Graveside services were held Aug. 15, 2005, at Forest Lawn in Glendale, Calif.
