Aubrey Richards Obituary

Aubrey W. Richards Sr. passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Dan Brandt officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Aubrey was born the son of Charles Daniel and Ruth Blackmon Richards on July 29, 1922, in Lorena, Texas. He married the love of his life, Rose Lee Schutza, on Feb. 8, 1941, in Fort Worth, Texas. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific in World War II.After 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, he retired in 1966 when James Connally Air Force Base closed. His post-military career included employment with General Dynamics and Marathon Battery in Waco. Many people will remember Aubrey's dedication to coaching youngsters in Little League and Pony League baseball. He was also known for his generous nature in that he would many times pay their fees and for their uniforms so they could participate. Aubrey's true passion in life (other than his family) was golf! He worked part-time for years at Lake Air Driving Range and spent most of his weekends playing golf with buddies at Connally Golf Course. When golf wasn't beckoning, Aubrey could be found working his flower beds or watching the Dallas Cowboys play. Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Ronald Richards; granddaughter, Traci Ray; three brothers, C.D., Pat, and R.C. Richards; and three sisters, Cleo Rampy, Myrtle Buice and Ruby Reeves. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Rose Lee Richards of Waco; sons, Aubrey Richards Jr. and wife, Virginia of Clifton, James Richards of Waco and Johnny Richards and wife, Rosa of Houston; daughter, Barbara Richards of Hewitt; brother, Robert Richards of Fort Worth; sister, Kathryn Battle of Waco; eight grandchildren, Megan, Greg, J.J., Joshua, Jenny, Mark, Mia and Jill; and 10 great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers are Tom Birkes, Blair Harris, Brad Maxwell, Ed Roland, Robert Valdez and Lance Zimmerman. We owe special thanks to Dr. Robert Brown and staff for the wonderful care they gave our husband and father these past 26 years. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the Waco Humane Society. July 29, 1922 -May 3, 2007 Sign the Guest Book at www.wacotrib.com

Dear Aubrey Richards Family,
Please, know how sorry I was to hear of Aubrey's passing. It has been a while since I was by to visit and get Aubrey to help me.
Help me was always what he did!
I'm sure there were many folks around Waco that enjoyed the friendship that we had. I know that he always made me feel extra special. I loved trading with him
and many times felt like I was taking his favorite club or clubs
from him. Most of the time when he said "Joe, just take it and try it, if you don't like it; I don't want you to even think about keeping it." In fact he would say "It's one of my personal favorites and I really don't even care if I sell it."
He was all horse trader, but always more than fair. I think he was a very, very good man. I've been wondering do clubs wear out or break in heaven? Do you ever need new grips? I choose to think that if I'm so fortunate to make it to the "Pearly Gates"; Aubrey will be there to say "Oh you didn't bring your clubs, no problem, I have the perfect set for you. I've been playing with them and there are still a lot of good hits left in them. I would rather you have them
as I was looking for the perfect set when I got these!!!! You try them!!!!!"

Sorry to ramble on so, but that was the way it always was when I was dealing with your husband, dad, grandfather. I liked him a lot and I loved dealing with him.

Kindest Regards,
Joe Bozarth III

P.S. You may not know it, Aubrey was quite a braggard. He was always bragging on his family, in the sweetest way!!!!!!!!!!!

A truly enjoyable character was your Father, AubreyJr.
Not to mention kind and generous. We should all have had Fathers such as your's. Many conversations with him in the "garage" fixing clubs. He will be sorley missed i'm sure not only by your family but his many friends. My sincere condolences.
