Edna Wood Obituary

Edna Wood

Jun 4, 1946 - Nov 5, 2025

Edna Huskison Wood, 79, of Waco, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m., in the Chapel at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco.

Edna was born on April 4, 1946, in Houston, Mississippi, to Shirley (S.A.) and Dorothy Huskison. Known affectionately in her youth as "Edna Ruth," she grew up in Ripley, Mississippi, where she developed the grace, warmth, and strong faith that would shape her life and relationships.

After college, Edna spent two years as a Journeyman in Kenya with the Southern Baptist Convention before returning to Texas. While living in Fort Worth, Edna met the love of her life, Dr. Randy Wood. The two married on January 8, 1972, and shared a devoted marriage marked by deep love, laughter, and partnership, living in Fort Worth, Shawnee, Oklahoma, and eventually settling in Waco.

Edna dedicated fourteen years of her professional life serving others as the Financial Secretary for the Waco Baptist Association. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Waco and served as the Recording Secretary and on the Executive Board of the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) of Texas. Her leadership and involvement extended to the Baylor Round Table, where she also served as president.

A gifted hostess and creative spirit, Edna found joy in decorating, cooking, baking, and opening her home to friends, family, and the Baylor community. She had a special passion for Christmas and was known for her beautifully decorated home-so much so that her family often joked, "If you sat still too long during Christmas, she would decorate you!" Her attention to detail, warmth, and hospitality made everyone feel welcome.

Edna is survived by her husband, Dr. Randy Wood of Waco; daughter Lindsey Wood; daughter-in-law Karmen Wood; and granddaughter Presley Smith all of Waco; brother-in-law Richard Zeagler of Meridian, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Wood of Waco; her parents, S.A. and Dorothy Huskison of Ripley, Mississippi; her in-laws, Robert and Ardeena Wood of Bardwell, Texas; and her sister Linda Zeagler of Meridian, Mississippi.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael Anderson Wood Endowed Scholarship in Finance & Accounting at Baylor University, or to the WMU of Texas Endowments at https://www.wmutx.org/give/endowments.

Edna's kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her legacy of faith, family, and hospitality will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
