Harold Llewellyn Mathias, 92, died Monday, October 10, 2022 in Houston.

He was born January 19, 1930 in Oklahoma City to Marian Bernice Guild and Harold L. Mathias, Sr. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He received a BBA in 1951 and entered the Air Force and was discharged as a Captain after serving as a Finance Officer.

Harold and his wife, Jackie, moved to Waco in 1956 where he lived for 65 years until he moved to Houston in 2021. He worked for Texas Life Insurance Company starting as an accountant and retiring in 1983 as Executive Vice President and Director.

He was a past Mayor of Waco, Chairman of the Planning Commission, President of United Way, Hedonia Club, City Club and Ridgewood Country Club. He served on the Board of Directors of Texas National Bank, M&T Mortgage Investors, Texas Mortgage Bankers Association Charter Fund and First Continental REIT. He chaired the committee to pass liquor by the drink in Waco.

Harold married Jacqueline Clyde Lake in 1954 and they were married for 29 year until her death in 1983. He married Janette Willingham and they were married for 36 years until her death in 2019.

His parents, both of his wives, his sister, Mary Ann Bond and brother, John Mathias, precede him in death.

Harold is survived by his two daughters, Dorothy Ables and husband, Mickey of Houston and Ellen de Alessandrini and husband, Enrico and his grandson, Giulio Mathias de Alessandrini, all of New York City. He is also survived by his three step-sons, George Wolfe and wife, Karen, Tom Wolfe and Jimmy Wolfe all of the Waco area; eleven grandchildren;ten great-grandchildren; and four nieces.

Graveside services for the family will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 601 Columbus Avenue, Waco, Texas 76701 or a charity of your choice.
