Ivan Hull Obituary

Ivan Wyllys Hull, M.D., 84, of Waco, died Monday afternoon, July 4, 2011, in Providence Medical Center. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room with the Rev. Jim Coston officiating.

Dr. Hull was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Drumright, Okla., to Wyllys Lyman and Edna Grandfield Hull. After graduating from Drumright High School, he served in the United States Navy during and immediately after World War II, before returning to Oklahoma to begin undergraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Oklahoma. There, he met and married Jeanne Rector of Norman, Okla., in 1951. He received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1954, then served a one-year internship at Wesley Hospital in Oklahoma City. Dr. Hull practiced medicine in Dalhart, Texas, for two years, came back to Oklahoma City to do a two-year residency in surgery, and then returned to his Dalhart practice.

Dr. Hull spent the majority of his career in Borger, Texas, where he was a physician and surgeon. He was a past president of both the Top of Texas and Hutchinson County Medical Societies. Dr. Hull also practiced briefly in El Paso, before retiring in 1992 in Borger, where he and his wife, Jeanne, were members of Faith Covenant Church.

The Hulls moved to Waco in 2007 and were members of Calvary Baptist Church, where they attended the Senior Adults Sunday School Class. One of the things he enjoyed most about his time in Waco was being able to attend athletic events at Baylor, particularly Lady Bear basketball games. A champion of higher education, he was proud of the degrees two of his children earned at Baylor and the third earned at his alma mater.

Dr. Hull was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Hull and Ansel Hull; and sister, Zepherine Hull Zumwalt and her husband, Neal.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanne Rector Hull of Waco; daughters, Harriet "Hatt" Fadal and husband, Carroll, of Waco, and Sarah Alexander and husband, Brian, of Victoria; son, Andrew Hull and wife, Yvonne, of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Benjamin Alexander of Cedar Park, Kathryn Williams and husband, Noel, of Waco, Abigail Javernick and husband, Justin, of Ada, Okla., Elizabeth Reed and husband, Casey, of Norman, and Amanda Hull of The Woodlands; great-granddaughter, Caroline Williams of Waco; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hull of Tulsa, and Betty Hull Williams of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to the staffs at Providence Medical Center, Bluebonnet Home Health and Home Instead Senior Care for the excellent care they gave Dr. Hull in his last days.
